Observations From 28 days on the Road
We just returned prematurely from a planned six week road trip in the Great Southwest. We had transmission problems heading out of Moab Utah and limped home to the White Mountains of Arizona.
My lovely and I traveled in a 26' no slide travel trailer with two medium sized dogs as companions.
Here are some observations:
1. When it is hot or cold outside you notice that more in a poorly insulated trailer. ie: it was 100 degrees in Lees Ferry (no hook-up no AC) and it was 24 degrees the next night on the north rim of the Grand Canyon.
2. The full size bed is way smaller than our queen at home when you have a cold Springer Spaniel in bed with you.
3. We took some things to entertain us in the evening. We never got them out of storage. eight to ten hours of activity sightseeing and hiking means eat dinner, clean-up go to bed.
4. Some dog owners are jerks in the world there are some of them that stay at campgrounds.
5. The best campgrounds are at the end of some bad road with no hook-ups our favorite was at 9000' in the Dixie National Forest.
6. The Grand Canyon is not just a big hole in the ground. I cried when I first saw it.
7. Having dogs while camping is a lot of work. I just could not open the door in the morning at 5.30AM and let them out into a fenced yard while I made coffee. Had to get leashes on and walk them several times a day. They loved it!!!
8. I missed my recliner!
9. It is amazing how little water I can use when doing dishes.
10. Travel days tired me out we really need to plan on doing nothing else that day even when we only drove a couple of hours.
It was hard work we came home tired and we cant wait to get the tranny fixed and head out again. It is definitely worth the effort.
