Avoid any feverish, coughing fleas if at all possible. - DiskDoctrExplorerIt's probably from all those campers bringing their own firewood. Darn ne'er do wells! :R
...or maybe it is Bush's fault :R - bodyshop_bobExplorerThis could be a story from most any year out West. The plague is found quite often in the fleas that live on most small mammals from New Mexico northward. In its usual form the plague isn't contagious and treated fairly easily. When it is found in the pneumonic form is when it gets ugly. Avoid any feverish, coughing fleas if at all possible.
- SpleenstomperExplorerThe problem is: the tourists feed the critters so the critters come up to you all fearless and bright eyed (well, maybe not the ones with the plague) and beg for food with their cuteness.
You must resist feeding them because then they will molest you for a peanut! (I know RVers know this, just speaking aloud). - CrusinSusanExplorerhttp://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2013/07/26/Calif-park-campgrounds-closed-after-officials-find-plague-in-squirrel/UPI-14571374865557/

- paulsangExplorerPlague? Really? This is nothing new, and I am a new RVer! Plague has been in our wildlife populations since it was introduced to the Americas. Like camperforlife said, just don't pet the little guys.
LOL - TravelonExplorerHappens about every other year on the West side of Lake Tahoe, close some campgrounds until it is clear (a few weeks to a month) just be wary of that lethargic chipmunk or squirrel and you'll be fine.
Travelon - camperforlifeExplorerThis pops up and hits the news every few years. It has been an issue for years but only occasionally hits the news. Just don't pet the little guys:B
