Portable/Countertop Dishwashers

I have a 2010 Cougar fifth wheel RV. I live in an RV park full time. I am interested in buying a portable/counttop dishwasher. They all seem to be 1160 watts. I think that wattage will probably shut off my power because of overloading. This happens when I try to run the microwave at the same time as the little electric fireplace (which has two power buttons and I use just one of them.

I think it is a lost cause, and I don't want to buy one to find out it blows my circuits!

Does anyone use one of these dishwashers in an RV and not have a problem?
  • I have one… it is a countertop model but I built it in for use in another camper… I have used it for countertop use on this trailer… mine come with hook-ups for both installations…
I had no electrical problems with it ever, but as a counter top takes up to much space so right now it’s in storage for the last 2 years…

I avoided the sanitize mode ( the RV hot water is more than hot enough) and when the wash finished, I just cracker the door and allowed them to air dry… I think the only time for concern might be when using the internal heater for the wash water/or to air dry… but even then it never tripped the breaker…
  • That is only a tad over 8 amps.
Why not install a separate 15 amp dedicated circuit for it?

Yes that is about the power of my Microwave, bit less than one of my Air conditioenrs.. I do not have one (Would like one if the price is decent).

You say it shuts off your power

15 amp branch circuit inside the RV or 30 amp main outside the RV?

If outside you may also have fridge and converter powered.
  • It is best to stand in front of the corner when wash dishes. Being on the corner top is counter productive! Chris
  • I installed a Fisher-Paykel dishdrawer (dishwasher) in our coach about 8 years ago and the wife loves it. It fit in where the propane oven would normally have been installed, only in our coach we had a stove top and a cabinet under the stove top. It works great. It uses less water than washing the dishes by hand. It uses quite a bit of power to dry the dishes, but not much to wash. So, you could use the "air dry" setting to limit power usage.

One warning though. They are "pricey". They are made in New Zealand (I believe).
  • My DW has a timer mode so I run it at night when nothing else is on.
  • Thanks for your response. I haven't purchased one yet. I do have to turn off my fake fireplace when I run the micro, so I am used to doing that. There are models of the portable/countertop dishwashers that are 680 amps, others that are 1160. I think 680 is fine, my DeLongi radiator style elec heater has two buttons, one is 700 and one is 800 for T1500 watts. I use the 800.
  • Why not turn something off while you run it?
That's what we do when on genny power.
    Good Luck, Mike
