Power Awning Question

I hate the electric awnings with the automatic wind and temp sensor. Ours never worked. We now have a 2011 Cameo with electric awning. Power button and it goes out,and then reverse. It's capable of being tied down, but also if you don't want to do that, just roll in when leaving the camp ground, for safety. It has been flawless. I love it. If it fails which it could I would get the manual out and go through steps to get it up. Not a big deal. Just carry the correct tools.

When I clean the underside of my awning, I slide a picnic table under the awning and stand on it. The motor on my awning is pretty high too, but if it failed, I'd simply slide the picnic table under that side of the awning and use it as a scaffolding.

And ... if you don't have a picnic table, just ask your neighbor campers. I bet someone has a ladder, unless your boomdocking WAY out in the sticks!

I replaced the motor on my Carefree Awning (don't remember which model) it had. It was on a 2006 HR Ambassador. Took the old motor off and went to Google using the serial number and brand on the motor. I was able to go to AutoZone and match the motor to one they listed in their books. Purchased a replacement motor for $45 and it has a lifetime warranty. Was working great when I sold the MH.

I've got a travel'r by care free. (And disappointed in it by the way).

I briefly read instructions of how to manually roll it up if motor ever fails. Sounded like something I should know. I quit reading the instructions when I found out I have to do something at the motor. Just how am I supposed to get up there? I'm not bring along a ladder just in case it fails maybe someday. I would call a mobile fix it guy and give him the instructions and hold his ladder for him.

We have two Girards. They have a motor bypass and can be retracted manually using an electric drill or a hand crank. Crank should come with the coach.....Dennis

That presupposes the motor is good, what happens when it is the motor that's gone TU?

My awning owners manual tells how to roll it up, if motor fails. I remember reading it, but not how. I do carry all manuals in the camper, for reference.
