Awning Question

Hello Folks,

I have a 2008 Jayco designer 34RLQS. The awning (much like almost all I have seen) stops just on the other side of the door opening. The slide and its awning a few feet away. I wish the awning took up the space between the door and the slide. I wonder if anyone has figured out a way to "close the gap"
  • Here's how we take care of shade problems:

Movable, ALWAYS cast shade in just the right spot, and no dependency on the awning when the sun is cast in the absolute wrong direction. They do work well with the awning to create a larger shaded foot print. Tilt them to block the sun when it's radiating low in the sky. They also fit in those spots where there are gaps in the shade, where sun beams through trees or anywhere.
  • I think the OP was looking for covering from awning to slide, which I wish I could cover also. If raining steps get wet and so does the rug at bottom of the steps. Any ideas?

Dutchman, I do like the tilting tents to block the sun though.

Install a longer awning, hang a blue tarp off the end with a couple of spring clamps, or buy a different rig. That's about the only 3 options as I see it. Some of the awning arrangements I see on new models leave me scratching my head. No forethought is put into the design whatsoever like thats breaking news.

I think someone installed the awning wrong on your trailer. Is there any reason you can see that it could not have been postiomed over a few feet to cover the doorway? Can you move your awning over? Or replace it with a longer awning?
  • If the awning is installed wrong there are many rigs out there that are incorrect! I would look hard at a solution as my awning is installed the same way. Another related thing - CW says that a slide cover cannot be installed on the LR slide due to conflict with the present awning arms. I guess I will just live with it since my rig is approaching 10 YO.

  • Maybe I misunderstood then. According to all the photos on the internet and even this link, Click here, the awning should cover the door.

If the awning is not covering the door, then about your only option, as stated above, is a new awning or a new camper.
  • I read the OP as meaning that the awning covers the door, but stops just beyond the edge of the door which seems to be the norm. OP is looking for a way to cover the gap left between the awning and the slide-topper.
  • I have seen some FWs that have 20' awnings that run from in front of the passthrough door all the way over the kitchen slide to the rear. I sure wish I had that, as I'll be in the same boat with my steps and door somewhat exposed to rain. Biggest issue with covering the gap with a tarp is, what happens if the wind kicks up and you have to retract them?
