Pullrite Superslide 5th Wheel Hitch

we have the 16K superglide and we had problems earlier on when we first got it, but now have kinda worked it out to where, we are near dead center on pin and hitch, inch the hitch up a bit till see a tiny gap and try release lever, if still stuck, have truck reverse a tiny bit or go forward tiny bit depending on how you were when you stopped the truck. if your yanking on the lever and its not going, either too much wtg pressing down or its too high up.

Did you get it unhooked?

Sometimes mine would not unlatch. When that would happen I either had to back up a little or raise the 5er.

I always had to have daylight between capture plate and hitch before I could release the latch.

According to manual you should never use anything but WD40 for lubrication. Every so after you need to clean it. Dirt collects and keeps the mechanism from working correctly.

Never had to pull the head though.

The first question I would have would be, Do you have a capture plate installed on the trailer?
If yes, go on pull-rite site and download the manual for your hitch. IMPORTANT: Read the manual.
I know in my manual it does not tell me to lift the trailer off the plate as others here are telling you. The reason for this is the "pin" on the trailer is shaped like an upside down T. _l_ The jaws (or a better term for this hitch "the hook" goes around the narrow part. If you lift the trailer off the plate you can pinch the hook between the bottom part of the inverted T and the bottom of the plate.

The manual will tell you to chock the trailer before unhooking. And it may be necessary to back up to relieve the pressure of the pin against the hook. Just a slight back pressure and then set the parking brake before going back to park should do it.

If those items do not fix it then there is a good chance the previous owner did something to the hitch and you should have it checked out.

All good suggestions so far. Used to have the 12k model and it was occasionally balky, but it always came off using the suggestions here, without removing the head.

This except I never lift it that much. I lift just until I see a little air gap.

We sometimes have to try a few things to get our super glide hitch to open. DH will have to put the truck in reverse, try the handle, then sometimes pull forward a little. Sometimes we don't have the front jacks at the right spot. We do know than when everything is correct, the handle will slip out easily. We've never had to remove the bolts, just sometimes it takes a lot of patience! Hitching up is a breeze though!

Similar experience.

1. Be sure truck and trailer are in straight line.

2. Chock and back in to the trailer, holding some pressure on the hitch with brakes while pulling the lever.

I've never had to pull the pins and get loose that way but a good option.

Every year or so I pull the pins and lube the mechanism, using a pair of pliers to hit the release trigger and work the lube in. Spray lithium grease from NAPA.
