Yes. The DEA and FDA have made the rules and violation of the rules means your provider loses his or her DEA number and possibly goes to jail. I am on a Schedule 2 drug and the state of Tennessee prohibits me from using Express Scripts to fill the prescription. The reason? They are not a Tennessee located provider and the state keeps tabs on Schedule 2 prescriptions. Since I am a Tennessee resident, my physician is a Tennessee physician, I have to play by their rules or do without medication.

And I am on the road now and had my first experience with this method.....had my home town doc call in my script to express scripts (an online pharmacy that my insurance company encourages me to use). Since I didn't know where I was going to be (or how long it would take them to fill and ship it, can be a couple weeks sometimes with them), I had it shipped to my "home" address and a friend forwarded it to me. To my surprise and amazement they gave me a 3 months supply! No refills of course. Since the law went into effect I have managed to save a few pills so I have a "cushion" to fall back on and the timing isn't so critical. That helped too.

So, last year we tried this: I had 3 written presriptions that I brought with me, post dated. One for now, and the other 2 for 2 other months. I took it to a pharmacy in California, and they said they couldn't fill it because she was a CNP. (nurse practicioner) I held on to it and tried to fill it in Arizona. Well, she had written two different prescriptions on one pad, and that isn't legal in Arizona, so long story short, I'm out of meds and will have to visit an Urgent Care to see if they will fill a prescription for me.

a PITA for sure.

they can't fax schedule 2 controlled drugs. they have to be written, and picked up by the person that they're for.

I'm dealing with this now. I'm in Ritalin (adult ADD) and will try to go to a Dr. soon to see if he will prescribe them for me as the Dr can't mail it to me. Will try this in Arizona when we're there in 3 weeks.

Yeah. This must be one of the biggest threats to our civilization.

From what I've seen and heard: NO legitimate doctor will do you any favors on extending themselves on certain drugs. They will get an automatic red flag for any suspicious activity. It is not worth the trouble to a legitimate physician.
Even little old senior citizens are selling their vicodin and Xanax to supplement their incomes.
You are going to have to play by the rules-no one will stick their neck out to help you.

You've just described the current system, high tech "script cutting" and all.

You just hit the nail on the head. That's the problem - getting legitimate prescriptions written willy nilly by MD's who are either on the take or just flat-out unethical (First, do no harm LOL)

The system is broken, sure - but why throw the baby out with the bathwater?

There has to be a creative solution for this. I think I know what it is, but it's pricey! They're called "Boutique Doctors" aka "Concierge Doctors" who will pander and write you anything, whatever city you're from:

you'd think that with modern technology, that your local doc, can cut the script. get it to the pharmacy, have it entered and validated and scheduled to be filled in another city, same pharmacy chain...



thank god for the good doctors rates going up.... gonna get a few more visits a year...

You're stuck with either visiting your Dr and getting a newly written paper prescription or visiting a referral MD (hopefully your MD can refer you to a network of Drs.) or visitng an Urgent Care (where they most likely WILL NOT script you for 90 days. So basically, you're toast! Welcome to the Brave New World.

Speaking of "Networks" of MD's, you might contact your health insurance company or an local ombudsman to see what they recommend you do.
