I was recently very impressed that a nice neighboring camper had a sewing machine in her RV. Previously, I'd met only one other camper who brought a machine on the road.

Since then I started asking around and found others who also bring their machines with them.

So I'm wondering: How many of you travel with sewing machines? If your bring one, what do you sew? (Machine quilting? Crafts? Pet clothes?) Or does your machine just end up collecting dust and taking up space (as I suspect mine would)?

Also, if you have a machine in your RV, what kind/brand do you have?

Thanks in advance for any/all courteous replies to this very nosey question. ๐Ÿ™‚

When we traveled full time GF brought her sewing machine along........it was one item that she wouldn't part with. 1940's Singer.

I figured it would just sit in bottom of closet......NOPE

She made curtains for the rear window to replace the day/night shades
She used it regularly for crafts......plus kitting/crocheting

Just set it up on dining table and had at it.
Easy pack up....right back in it's case.
Is it time for your medication or mine?

We still travel as a family and I do not have time to sew.

But when the kids were much younger 3 years in a row I stayed in a cottage with them for most of the month of June. Once they went to bed I sewed clothes for myself.

If I had time now, I would bring my little Singer Genie and piece quilting projects.

I always have a crochet or cross stitch project to work on. I used to work on them when dh was driving, but due to a shoulder injury he cannot drive the RV as much and I do most the driving. We used to split it 50/50.

At home I sew clothes for the family and quilts for special occasions. This year I will be making 2 baby quilts, a quilt for Mum's 80th birthday and one for my son's high school graduation.

I have several machines, as I am a quilter. Usually I just bring along an older Sears because it is small and lighter weight than the machines I use at home. While DH is out fishing and I am at camp with the dogs is a great time to piece a quilt.

Last summer we met a campground host who had installed a sewing studio in the garage of their toyhauler. Needless to say, I was VERY impressed.
