I have used them since 2010, actually have had a tire go down on that side with no affect at all. When we stop for one night on a trip, I don't take the time to use them. when we setup for the duration, I install them with just enough pressure to keep them from falling out. The rig has less movement when used.

Slide supports are from the era before our modern powered (gear/hyd) slide outs and were needed to keep the then called tip out or pull out level. I guess its possible some of those old trailers are still in use but I can't imagine they sell very many of those old supports.

Not god. There is always "movement" of the RV and supporting the slide will cause it to not "move" with the RV. That will wear the slide mechanism and cause failure.
