Sometimes you really don't need to "go" camping...

We live in a so called active senior adult community about 25 miles north of Tucson, elevation 3400' at the foot of Mount Lemon. Reading the Sunday paper over coffee when my bride spotted this gentleman staring over the wall into our yard. He was in our yard a couple of months ago and had returned to graze in the wash behind our house. He has a broken left front foreleg which has healed somewhat but remains swollen. Despite a pronounced limp he gets around pretty well leaping our 4' wall with ease.





We sat out last night enjoying a roaring fire in the backyard fire pit for several hours entertaining relatives visiting from MA. Crystal clear night with a sky full of stars. Could have been just about any of our favorite CG's. The best part was we didn't burn any gas getting there. :B

X2 I tell DW if she wants to go camping I'll pull the MH out of the garage and take it over to the pond. Quietest CG around with lots of wildlife and free firewood. ๐Ÿ™‚

We live in the city and surrounded by trees, in a condo that is part of 182 condos on 22 acres. We had a 7 point buck under our deck last year, we have some wild turkeys that wander around regularly and have a den of foxes close enough to run through occasionally.

I hear lots of Coyotes howl every evening and morning but rarely see them. They're generally not a problem but every few years they do come down the street looking for loose small dogs and cats.

Yup, we have two lots (total about 8 acres) in the woods. Great view off the deck. The wild life we see are deer, rabbits, squirrels, eagles, fox, owls. We have seen a bobcat, moose, wolf and "mt" lion. In the spring and fall we get bunches of eagles circling in the updraft over head (we live on a ridge). Great leaf watching in the fall.

About all I see in our driveway is an occasional copperhead. There is this one possum who helped himself to my grapevines all season. DW would walk the dog and it was no surprise for her to see Mr. Possum hanging by his tail on the steel frame that holds up the vines. Lately he's started helping himself to the cat's food in the garage.

Coyotes are the one predator we do not see around here. With both wolves and cougar here, the coyote was eradicated years back. the red fox we have are living in the most populated part of town, as they know the wolves and cougar will be very hesitant to come downtown.....

One was hit by a car on a nearby busy street. The next year's fox family was a different pair of adults; they have identifiable individual markings.

I keep hoping that they are still around. My neighbor, aged 55, grew up on this block and they were here when he was a kid. I lived here for over 20 years before I saw any. It could be that just about everyone around here has dogs, which they did not many years ago.

My yard is a suburban mecca for wildlife. Deer, opossum, skunk, fox, coyotes, bear in the past, fisher, lots of little critters and tons of birds. Our property borders a river and when the development was built the developer left a lot of green space. One of our goals when we travel is to see wildlife not native to our area.

Sadly, I have not seen them in a couple of years.

An increase in the coyote population will drive the fox out. Creates big competition for some of the same food sources.

I will never see as much wild life as I can see in my back yard any day of the week. I have a creek at the bottom of the hill and farm fields on the other side. Unlimited horizon for the sun to set into. The reason I RV is to see a different part of the country. That is becoming too big a hassle any more.

Even in here in an old suburb the wildlife abounds. My yard is managed as habitat (water, hiding places, berries for critters to eat, etc). Two different years I had families of gray foxes as frequent visitors. They didn't den here, but the parents brought the babies over as soon as they could climb the wall. Sadly, I have not seen them in a couple of years.
