Thinking about getting a side mount gas grill

Rather than carry our Coleman Road Trip Grill on trips where we keep moving from site to site, I want to try one of the grills that mount on the side of our travel trailer.

Any comment on how these work?
  • I LOVE my side mounted Olympian grill that connects to my camper's propane connection through a port under the wing of the camper. I've never had issues with it and the mount keeps it far enough away from the siding that I don't see it as a problem. It has a cover, so if there are any flareups I just close it... done! Anyway, to each his own in terms of what they feel regarding safety, etc., but I love mine and don't foresee changing to a table top portable in the future (though mine does have a table top option bracket.)

  • I've used a side mount for about 15 years, since I got my first Jayco 5er. I wouldn't buy another RV without it. I see the hassle my family and friends go through setting up their grills and trying to get them level for cooking. They buy expensive tables or legs to put their grills on. They have to buy extra propane bottles and carry all of this stuff around all the time.

I've never had a problem with grease. And yes you can have smoke under the awning, but that can happen in any case depending on the wind. The only problem I ever had was one RV where the bracket wasn't attached to the RV very well and I took it back to the dealer to get it put on better. All I carry is the bracket and the grill and I'm good to go anywhere.

yep, grease/smoke/etc. under the awning, etc. I want to be able to move mine to the table, down wind, etc.
the sidewall mount for mine is still stored in the garage, unused.

  • One came on my previous Jayco TT. They mount on the side or can be used on a table. Convenient. I kept mine and use it with my MH. I just use it on a table now.
