Tips for unplanned move to fulltiming over the next months?

We spent all last summer in the Colorado mountains. As long as you stay in the higher elevations you won't need air conditioning and it's beautiful! Gold mining history, hiking and train rides for the kids. The west side of the Rockies aren't as busy in the summer.

If you're moving a lot your batteries will stay charged up and you'll only need commercial campgrounds to dump and fill your water tank. Have a good time!

We are thinking of moving around a lot. Probably only stay 1-3 days at most campgrounds. Moab is just a destination we may reach and continue on or never reach and see something else instead. As long as we use this opportunity to get far away from Montreal; we can visit the east coast anytime.

I hear you about heat. AC was something I wanted in the RV. I only have a 13.5k unit but it's a small 20' RV. I hope it will do.

We could consider boondocking as long as we get there by sundown and leave in the morning. Either that or spend on 2x2000w generators. Money is not a problem as I have some put away and my wife is getting her teacher's pay. But 2000$ in generators pays for a lot of campgrounds with pools and friends for the kids.

I expect that by summer's end the kids will have learned a lot of things and possibly speak english fluently.

I would plan on one night at any of the Moab campgrounds - then spend all the time you can finding a great boondocking site nearby. You might end up spending 2 nights though. Fill with water, and fill any water tanks you might have along with you. Normally you can stay out about 4-6 nights before going back to town to a full hookup place, taking lots of showers, dump tanks and refill with water, enjoy the pool ect, then you will be looking forward to being out in the wild again, with no neighbors.

You can google map Moab, and find places like Horseshoe Point, there are wonderful places that you can camp in that area. Set up for a week at a time!

IT helps if you have a couple solar panels, but a generator will work. Honda 2000 if you don't have anything right now, it is only 47 pounds. Make sure to chain it up at night, or put in back into a storage compartment.

I would spend 2 weeks dry camping, but I only had 2 people, and 100 gallon fresh water tank, with 59 gallon black tank. I could actually go 3 weeks if I bought back about 15 gallons of water while out sightseeing.

Hope that you have a great time, personally I would be a bit worried about finding a job to start a long trip though.

FreeCampgrounds.com They list many free places to go boondocking.

I don't know your financial situation but taking off RVing for the summer doesn't seem like a good idea without a job. I would save that money - just in case.

If you do go, as stated, Moab is very hot in the summer so if you get a RV site that you have to pay for the electric, it's going to be very expensive. You might think more in terms of being at higher elevation - 7,000+ during the summer. Good luck!

Having said that..you kinda hooped no matter where you go, unless you head east to the Maritimes or go like the wind for the west coast. I have been to Moab many times and it's just a fabulous area...just be sure you and yours want to be dealing with the temps all the way.

I am Canadian. Wife has health insurance coverage forwhe family. Us and 2 kids with 32gal water and 28gal gray; prob. not boondocking.
Yes more of a very long vacation than real fulltime. The camper is a Skyline eco camp 20bh. 2 bunks, u-table slide and queen bed. Fridge,AC,burner,microwave but no oven.

Are you Canadian?

Be sure what your health insurance will cover when away from your primary physician(s) for that long.

So, you need to be back home by the end of the summer? Sorry, but that's not fulltiming, just a long vacation :) Just sayin', if that's the case, the title of your post could be misleading to folks trying to respond.
