Trouble with California

Ag. Check points;we all know understand and tolerate them, never a problem.
Couple of weeks ago we were heade to redwood. National forest from Grants Pas Oregon.
Ag check ahead, ok I fall into line with everyone else, multiple lanes, cars trucks, other rv,s. Everyone pauses about thirty seconds and moves on. Normal right?
My turn, she looks at my NY tags,Have you any fresh fruits or vegetables on board?"
"No we Don,t"
"w
When was the last time this vehicle was in Ny?"
"About 8or9weeks ago."

She then grabs a flashlight and inspection miror and gives the undercarriage of both truck and trailer a thorough going over. She then does a second tour inspecting the roof area.
I was quite surprised, but oh well not an imposition.
"I would like to inspect the interior"

"Not with out a warrant"
"Sir Weare trying to protect our agricultural resources"

"I understand that, bbut you are not entering my trailer without a warrant !"

She gave me a look that could kill, and entered her both and made a phone call.

Minute is so later she comes out, shoves a handful of invasive critter literature into my hand and said,"move on"

Has anyone else been subjected to such nonsense,or did this inspector just have a bone for New Yorkers?

But an AG stop isn't about police enforcement - it's about protecting an area from invaders you surely don't know that you are transporting. Why on Earth would you not let someone find a pest that can create havoc in an environment?

We are a diverse group, but I bet the ONE thing we have in common is a love for the outdoors, right? And yet I'm astounded by the number of people who have an attitude about following guidlelines (not transporting firewood also comes to mind). I would gladly submit to a daily search if it would erase the millions of acres of dead trees, just for starters.

Yes, I am unabashedly a tree-and-fish hugger.

Well, let me tell you pitch and a few others that claim agents "do not have the right". The agent could have given you the "pull over there and wait" speech. From there the agent could have called in the big boys to search your vehicle and trailer. They could have torn everything apart and then given you a piece of paper advising you to get it put back together by a professional before continuing on your way. Fact

Reading some replies that quote this makes me wonder. I will try not to get political, and stay historical.
Would this happen at a ag checkpoint? Very unlikely at this point. But say a roadside safety check or traffic stop? I believe it has.
First look at history. Ever hear about what your government did to the Japanese-Americans after Pearl Harbor? You, and most others think "But we where at WAR!" and the government has said "we're sorry" In times of war, "rights" must be restricted. Congress has the right to declare war, and in nearly 78 years they have done it twice. War on Drugs and War on Terror
When I raised my hand to swear to protect the constitution it had so many amendments I could not keep track of which was which. But in service of these 2 wars congress has done away with most of them. And for some reason the american people only throw a fit when they talk about one of them.
It would likely turn political if I started to go into that. But it is scary to point this out. Congress gave one president the authority to order the execution of anybody, anyplace in the world. (Where did congress get that authority to give away?) The next president used that authority to execute a juvenile american citizen. Any outrage from the population? The reaction from congress? A leader of the opposing party "Boy should of picked a better father"
To do a search LEO needs permission or "probable cause" May need a warrant, but "probable cause" will let them get the warrant. Many have the attitude "I have nothing to hide, come look." The other side of that, where LEO and judge stand, is "If you don't want me to look, you must have something to hide." And I bet for some that is "probable cause". If the LEO has the warrant, he likely will take ship apart until he finds what you are hiding. So yes, in this country there is a chance if you refuse to let the powers that be "Look around" you will have to put your snot back together.

I wonder how that's hurts California economy overall. I guess they can't protect everything.

This is the most ignorant post I've seen so far on the internet.

If that's the worst you've seen I'd stay off the internet altogether... There's some really weird stuff out there that would give you palpitations... ๐Ÿ˜‰

Specially that the biggest forest fire was on National Forest which is not CA's responsibility but federal.

Let's wait for edit, maybe he will add that it's because Californian's are not sweeping their forests. Sweep or vacuum with Roomba? Can't remember.

OP here, Did I give attitude? Is lowering the window and saying good morning attitude? That is precisely what I did.

Authoritarian government at work.
If she had started of with explaning that there were a few pest coming from the East coast, she still would'nt have gotten in,instead she immediately fell back to page one sentence one of every government security training manual,"Control the situation" Here there was no situation to bbe controlled but she felt she needed to any way.
Don't give a hoot what anyone thinks. No warrant no entry, plain simple and final!!!!

Probably becoming an angry old fart or likely somebody who is upset that my former home (Calif) has lost its way.

The inspector didn't enter without permission. She asked to enter - the OP said no - she didn't enter.

The truth is there was no violation of anyone's rights. Just a visitor who got mad because he thought he was "being targeted" (hmm, not so nice is it?) and gave an attitude, and an inspector who returned the attitude.

What Ash trees? (You've obviously been here) and yes - we are sweating the Asian Carp while the Great Lakes States and the Corps of Engineers decide what to do next.....(insert sound of chirping crickets)

On the other hand, as I travel to visit Florida, I see our invasive Phragmites are alive and well and spreading like wildfire (literally) down south... they're kind of pretty, actually - until they catch fire.
