v10 red line?

As said it should not over rev due to automated shifting. I wouldn't run it over about 5K on extreme engine braking downhill. Typical RV use is 5K miles per year. Unlikely engine is limiting factor on RV life no matter if it is seeing high revs from time to time.

If you really want to pamper the engine, adjust speed/gear to 3700-3800 limit on grades. Seems to be a good pulling speed on hills.

Only time to worry about red line is if one has a tune that disables the rev limiter. Otherwise the ECM will keep the engine from blowing.

The ECM knows the red line and will cut power when you try to exceed it.

We have a 2012 24' Class C with a 2011 E-350 6.8L V-10. Per the Ford website max HP is 305 at 4,250 and max torque is 420 at 3,250. You can run 4 - 5,000 rpm all day and (other than burning a fair amount of fuel), you won't hurt a thing.

Most 6% grades are easily handled in 4th gear at 3,200 to get to the top at 55 - 60 mph. An occasional downshift to third (passing on a hill), will generate around 4,200 but it doesn't last long. Can't imagine anyone needing more than 4,200 very often or long.

My work truck 2013 F550 has the 3 valve per cylinder V10 and it shows redline at 5,000 on the tach

We have a 2003 Class C with the V-10 and it doesn't even have a tach. I think if you are at all familiar with engines, pulling loads, running high RPM's etc. the engine will be really noisey and sound like it's screaming well before it would reach a danger point. Especially true with an RV where super high RPM shouldn't be necessary if you are in the right gear. It isn't drag racing where you want red line revs. When I towed with a truck, Chevy v-8, 4500 sounded high but it isn't.

I think the term 'red line' is really a dinosaur from the past. Your engine will have a rev limiter to prevent any damage.

There is none. Not in the common terms you're trying to use anyway.

As has been stated, the computer will dictate what the red line is. If you floor it the computer is making the call and not you. Floor away! :B

Maybe some help for you. If you click on the link you can find the horsepower/torque curves for the Ford V10 (including revised curves for Hypertech power adders). Max torque is just under 4,000rpms and max horsepower is just over 5,000rpm.

If you just hold it to the floor you will find out. We had a 5.4 which is the same modular engine with a couple less pistons and if you floor it the computer would cut it off at about 5700. It was hard to tell the exact number because it would bounce when it cut off and back on. It would do that with no ill effects.
I haven't done that with the V10 yet in park but in 1st gear it will stay at 5500 without cutting out so I know it's higher then that.
