OP here. Thank you.

Both link 2 and link 3 verify that I have the correct form. When the time arrives, I will arrive at the checkpoint with 3 copies of this form, filled out except for that one line. I will ask the Canadian customs agent what he wants me to put there, then be ready to sign the finished copies.

Very good idea. And someone was right to suggest you not say it is for protection from humans. Just animals.

This is a serious non rhetorical question and not meant to be offensive or disrespectful of anyones culture or belief. Where can someone in your situation visit other than the US. Are there other countries that allow you to freely travel around with weapons or are you pretty much land locked to the US?

We were planning a trip to Alaska and checked into the shotgun issue. I was told that if asked why you need the shotgun, your answer is "we will be in isolated areas and need a wild animal deterrent" (or similar verbiage). NEVER say for personal protection from a human.

If you are intent on having the shotgun in your vehicle with you...call the CDN border crossing that you'll be going thru. Get the name of agent you are talking to. Ask the question.

Send it through an FFL to Alaska. When your done send it back. Could get expensive so decide if it worth it. Had a pistol that needed fixed under warranty. Buy the time I figured shipping I just had a gun smith fix it.

If you have any questions, call them, or wait and ask. I've never had a problem either passing through or just going to BC. Just do the proper forms.
I rarely have encountered a Canadian with a gun, but cross the border to Alaska and seems like everyone is packing... The Canadians think we are kinda weird. Customs agents included.

Have fun. I did that once way back when. Gun was a Model 12 12 ga Winchester.

After unloading everything from the suburban on the ground in the parking lot, the border agent gave me one of those BS have a nice trip and left me there to repack.

I was on my to a Military assignment at Ft Richardson. Sigh!
