Waiting for a diesel pump at Loves exit 233 on I-65

Pulling a big 5th wheel thru Alabama stopped at Loves where there is not much room. Pulled around waiting on a Class A to finish fueling. After he is done instead of moving out of the way his wife brings out lunch from the subway and they sit there blocking 2 pumps eating lunch. Has this ever happened to anyone?

Yes, it is. Your post wasn't clear that that's the way you were traveling.

Yes, but the travel plaza north of there at Glendale (Moapa) is much less busy.

when you are headed 93 south thru Las Vegas that is a bit out of the way. and what stranger in the area would know that?

Hey, folks, I wasn't trying to create a controversy. If I had left my vehicle to tie up a gas pump when the entire place is full up with people waiting... well, my mama didn't raise me like that. If someone had moved my vehicle, I would have died from embarrassment, not threaten to beat people up. Now, did I actually have a gun behind my back? Of course not, it was a bluff and it worked. So, please accept my apology for causing folks to get upset. I thought some would get a chuckle out of my story, because, I'm sure, many folks secretly wish they could do the same sometimes.

Steve, sorry if I fanned the flames of controversy. Your story is a perfect example of how volatile some people can be let alone rude and discourteous. You just never know what people will do over trivial things.

Years ago, at a large truck stop, the lanes were backed up with two-three cars waiting for each side of the gas pump islands. The guy in front of me decides to go shopping after he fills up and leaves his truck parked in front of the pumps. I wait 5 minutes, then 10. I'm trapped and can't move my truck, but, if only... sure enough, he left the keys in the ignition. So, I moved his truck and parked it safely away from the pumps. I pull up and begin filling. I'm nearly finished when he comes storming out of the store screaming "who moved my truck???" Nobody answered and I stood calmly by my truck, dark sunglasses on, trying to hide my smirk. Finally someone caved and pointed to me. He stomps over, cussing and screaming and threatening to beat me to an inch of my life. I calmly reach behind my back and tell him he will die before he gets the chance. As with most bullies, he stomps off, jumps in his truck, revs the engine and throws it into drive... only I set the emergency brake and I set it hard. He kills the engine after trying to tear the rear end from the suspension. The entire place burst out laughing... Don't know that I would do that anymore, but it sure was funny at the time.

Steve

And to think, all I did was tell the guy I might just go ahead and wash ALL my windows and seems I got bashed for that on here.

I'm not so sure I'd have enough nerve to move someone else's car, but I'm glad YOU did! Maybe next time, everyone could start blowing their horns at the same time until they move????

Nah, that won't work either. Idiots and morons always have ways of self-justifying their own actions!

I chuckled. don't know what I would've done, but I am not here to judge.

-Someone left his keys in the ignition of his vehicle? Seems like a mistake to me. I don't leave my vehicle available for thieves.
-Gets all angry because you moved it? eh, not for me to judge since my keys are never left in the ignition ๐Ÿ™‚

You probably could've showed him how to act by NOT bluffing about a gun But I'm guessing this was years ago.

Then you are just plain stupid. Pretending to have a gun when you don't? Especially after stealing the mans vehicle, yes stealing.

Can't say there has ever been a problem at truck fuel islands.

Thoughtless car driver stories at fuel stations however, abound. They usually revolve around a car abandoned at the end or only gas/diesel pump when there are plenty of gas only pumps for them.

Fuelling often presents a unique problem for us. Most require a zip code for the credit card. A US postal code. Our credit cards are not linked to a US address therefore no zip to enter. This means a trip inside to the often very busy counter to prepay or get an authorisation. Time consuming. We do our best not to waste time. The DW trots off inside, radio in hand, so that there is no walking back & forth.

It is not perfect but the best we can do.

No, he implied that he would defend himself, I inferred that he was talking about shooting the guy because the guy was irate over the fact someone climbed in and moved his truck. ๐Ÿ™‚ If you're messing with a guy's truck seems like you should be willing take your beating like a man. ๐Ÿ™‚

No one should be threatening anyone with violence. No one should "take a beating like a man". A guy just died in Las Vegas from a fist blow to the head....so I can't blame anyone who says they will defend themselves from being beaten.

I would also not be moving someone else's vehicle but I would lay on my horn maybe or block a driveway while waiting....or just leave to go somewhere else.

I know many truck stops only accept a very few cards at the pump. If you don't have one you have to go in - give your card - return and pump then go in and settle. My wife goes in and gets the card swiped - shops while I pump diesel and pull ahead when done then she pays. Works for us. I have seen signs saying pull ahead when done fueling. Just common decency. Lost on some.
The other side is I was without the trailer at car pumps waiting for a diesel pump when I was confronted by an angry older fellow as to why I was waiting in that particular line (the only diesel pump was also gas island) When I said need diesel he walked away but still quite upset -hard for some to contain rage I guess. Thought he would keel over right there.
