What's The Steepest Grade You Have Towed...

I tow 14K 5vr and use back roads....been on many, many steep roads

No issues other than GF going "OH NO here we go AGAIN"

Not knowing any better we pulled our 12K FW over Teton Pass (Wilson Grade) in June of this year. Thank God for a diesel engine and enging braking! According to the Mountain Directory, it's 10% on both sides of the pass. I'll never do that one again.

Bella Coola BC "The Hill" 18% 9KM gravel road.

I did the Sonora Pass to Nevada once. Towed a pop up trailer. 2500 lbs maybe with gear. 26% grade. Yup. 26. Not a typo. Worst part was that these grades were right after hairpin right hand turns. No getting speed up before. Even with such a light load, it was very slow and difficult. Trailers are not advised past a certain point. There's about three grades over 20% at maybe 40 to 50 yards each. So they're short. But it's windy and narrow. Most of it is probably 12%. It's a brutal trip. I won't do it again towing.

Steepest for me is 15% for a couple miles on both up and down sides, pulling a 5,000 lb TT with a diesel SUV. No issues, but I can see how some rigs would have trouble with steep grades.

We did Wilson Pass with 9K lbs tt on an F250 no problem.
Also did 18% grade both up and down to Rickett's Glenn in Pennsylvania with the same set up.

Last month, we did the Dalton highway, dirt/gravel with 10-12% grades in our fully loaded gas class A pulling a jeep wrangler. No problems except one spot where construction crews had deeply wet down a dirt 10% grade to regrade it. About 100 yards from the top, we were sinking and sliding almost as much as we were moving forward. We made it, but gained about 500 lbs of mud between the rig and the jeep.

Don't know the grade, maybe someone here can chime in, but the entrance to Palo Duro Canyon in Texas is the steepest we have ever driven.

I have a small Aliner that I've towed over Sonora pass and pira114 is correct. Its 26% up and down. Thing is I've seen motor homes and 5th wheels going over it more than once. Bigger engines, Jake brakes, etc. make it possible I guess.Me and the pop up again? I thin not!:E

Yes that is a steep hill. Last time I came up "The Hill" from Bella Coola and just past Atnarko where the road is the steepest, it was raining hard which turned the roadway into a mud pit. Without 4 wheel drive, I would not of made it up the hill and I was only pulling a 4,000 lb trailer.

The Duffey Lake Road descent into Pemberton Valley, though not as a long as "The Hill" which is unpaved)" is considered the steepest paved highway in BC. The decent is 3300' in 8 miles with 11 - 15% grades at its worst. On the other end of Duffey Lake Road, the decent down into Lillooet at its worst, is 1460' in 4 miles.
