Whats the best restaurant .....

Many years ago, back in the mid 70's, myself and another detective went on an extradition trip to Columbus, Ohio, from Miami, Fla. It was an overnight trip, picking up the prisoner the next day. We went to a seafood rest. that was originally a circa 1900's two story firehouse. Tables were on the first floor and the kitchen was on the second floor. When an order was ready they would ring the original fire bell and the waiter/waitress would slide down the original slide pole balancing the food tray. Crazy to watch.
Had the best seafood I've ever had outside of Main. Seafood flown in every other day, fresh. You could put togather your own platter.
To this day I still remember, jumbo shrimp boil, soft shell crab, and an order of fried smelt (I'd never had smelt before and they were soooo good). Roasted red skin potato chunks, fresh corn on the cob, and a full size loaf of fresh sourdough bread.
40 years later and I still think of that meal.
Than, there's the original Joe's Crab Shack on Miami Beach. Used to go there in the 60's and 70's before it became to popular to be affordable to the common folk.

I had been to England country side,it was an amazing experience. We took a halt for night I enjoyed the typical food of England , me and my cousins had a lot of fun and the amazing part was gardening northside it was so beautiful.

Lot's of great meals in my home state of Louisiana - and good to see a few posts about restaurants there. And lots of good meals on the road.

Best recent: Hot Pancakes and fresh Maple Syrup at the Woodstock Vermont Fire Department Pancake Breakfast. Drove by the sign on my way to take early morning photos on a cold October morning last fall. Great way to end the morning and met some friendly folks in the process.

Best ever - Johnny' Steakhouse in Denver, Pa. Crab patties to put anyone's to shame, steak to die for and if you want seafood go upstairs to Kyma's !

Kincaid's Grocery in SW Ft Worth. Best Hamburger in the country!
At lunch and dinner time, they turn their meat market into a hamburger joint. Well worth the drive into the neighborhood, if you are in the vicinity.

Want a good hamburger on the west side of Houston? Try Texas Burger on the north side if I-10 at Weimer. Huge parking lot. Easy in/out.

Our most memorable restaurant meal was at Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. I was driving and got distracted looking at beautiful Mt. Shasta, when I clipped the building and tore off 20-ft of our roof, our awning, and the restaurant's awning. Of course, we went inside, got some lunch, and owned up to my mistake. They were gracious about it, thankfully. But that turned out to be about a $3600 hamburger. Fortunately, GEICO paid everything promptly and I assume they got their awning back.

So there's a lesson in that--pay attention to your driving and make sure you have excellent insurance for those times that you get stupid.

Sometimes it's not always about the food, (even thought the food was great) it's about the experience, the name of the restaurant The Oasis is in Austin, Texas, know for it's amazing sunsets.

Hands down, the Chowder House in Fairbanks, AK!!

1. The Siding Café, Field, British Columbia. Excellent food and incredible views.
2. The Other Paw Bakery, Jasper, Alberta. Best Cinnamon buns in Alberta.
3. Kaina Hut, Bora Bora. Good luck getting your RV there though.
