your favorite style of rv and why

Had: Vans, TTs, Class A (gas) MHs, TC (one), and now 5th wheel.

No pop-ups or Class C MH.
(IMO - Tents don't qualify as an "RV").

The vans probably didn't either - sleeping, stove, fridge = yes.
Bathroom facilities = no.
(They were also TVs for two of the TTs)

Liked them all except for the 11' TC - which I bought 'cause it was a great deal -
It was...sold it about 6 months later for a $3K profit..:C
(Only time I *ever* sold an RV at a profit).

Best answer is the one I owned - when I owned it.

If I was going to do it again - it would *probably* be a Toy Hauler 5th.

DP MH would be xln't - but don't feel I would use it enough to justify the cost.....and then there's "care and feeding" of another vehicle with a driveline.

But then.....ya just never know what might come along.........;)

We've had a 19'TT, a 30'TT a 35'FW a 39' class A and just recently went back to a 30'TT. We probably enjoyed the class A the most, however it was too rich(maintenance costs) for our pocket book. The FW was nice, but you basically lose use of the truck bed. We decided on the 30'TT and a 3/4 ton diesel TV. For us, this combo suits most all our wants.

We usually travel with four passengers so I bought a Class C 30' ten years ago and we're still going strong with it. If you're only going out on two/three week forays at a time I suggest staying with the Class C only going to one of the smaller ones now available. You'll have plenty of room for two adults and get good mileage and you won't need a toad. This is what I'd do if it were only the wife and me.

There is very little difference of maintaining a motorhome and toad, than maintaining a truck by itself when you are talking in terms of RVing. The insurance on your motor home is not much different then the cost of the insurance you had on your TT ?????? I can't see how that could be. You don't need collision, no-fault, or anything like that on a TT. I think the insurance on my TT is like 125 bucks a year or something like that.

I think there are certain main decisions to make regarding which RV is best for you:

• large living space vs. maneuverability
• extra set up/take down vs. more weight/size
• dedicated motor for RV vs. 2nd vehicle (either toad or tow with separate daily driver) vs. 1 vehicle (either toad or tow used as daily driver)
• toad vs. tow vs. take it with you everywhere
• deep off-road vs. basic camping vs. fulltiming vs. sightseeing/travel
• long stays vs. short stays - extra consideration of day trips
• bed and breakfast vs. tent on steroids vs. basic amenities vs. home
• cost

Everything else comes down to preferences, but I think the above are those items that will really make your choice for you.

For example, when I was deciding, I knew I wanted maneuverability, more weight/size, basic camping, short stays, and basic amenities.

Those took me to either a class B, class C, TC or TT. Cost knocked out the B. The TC got knocked out because I didn't want a large truck for my daily driver and I couldn't justify having both my current SUV and a truck (nor buying both a truck and a commuter car). That left the C or TT.

The C gave me the 2nd vehicle if needed for a minimal additional cost over the TT. In addition, it gave me the ability to do day trips.

All true points. I'm still at the point where climbing up into the bed isn't an issue, and with the larger, triple slide models, there is quite a good amount of usable space (although the tradeoff is weight.)

Realistically, because of storage space (and the fact that Austin doesn't allow storage of TTs or TCs in driveways...), I'm almost certainly going to wind up with a "B", mainly because they are the easiest to park and store in this area, while providing decent amenities on longer trips. There is something to be said about being able to access one's rig quickly to head out when you feel like it.

Awesome is how we feel about our 24 foot Class C, too. However ours does have a permanent bed - which the DW uses all the time for quick naps and to get horizontal for quick relief from a bad back. Our rig also has two other non-permanent beds for occasional use.

Definitely pros and cons to each. We've owned a hybrid TT (loved the camping feel of the tent ends, but quickly tired of the leaking/noise/heat/takedown time); a regular TT (enjoyed it, but towing was not pleasant); fifth wheel (lived in it for a year while we built our house...great for full-timing, but too much for camping and travel); Sprinter 24 ft Class C (awesome and mobile; didn't need to tow, but tired of the lack of a permanent bed) and now our current small 25 ft. Class A, a Thor Axis. The Axis has everything we want..great storage and tank size, sofa, twin beds, spacious cab with seats that swivel and make a dining "room". It is also small enough to use without a toad, but not quite as nimble as our Sprinter was. We looked at and like Class B's, but not the price or the smaller fridge. Someday, who knows?!
