A good reason not to follow FB advice...update 9/18
A couple of weeks ago Izzy bleed into all her toenails..it was quite startling...I posted pics and asked on FB if anyone had every had this happen with their dogs and received a few replies saying yes their dogs had it happen and their vets were never concerned...but I wasnt really comforted by the replies so I made an appointment with her cardiologist..the cardiologist was very concerned and immediately checked Izzys blood pressure and it was extremely high...she then had Izzy and I stay in a darkened room for awhile and then had me take the pressure ...it did come down but was still elevated..213/115 which for a chihuahua is elevated...so lesson learned..FB is not the place for a medical diagnosis ...Izzys Echo and EKG were stable so that was one good thing..her pulmonary hypertension is still being managed well by the sildenafl. pacemaker is working as set.....the second unfortunate or maybe fortunate thing was Izzys blood work showed some irregularities in her BUN and Creatitine so has had some urinary tests done, now we are waiting for the results.
UPDATE: unfortunately Izzys urine tests , along with her BUN and Creatitine blood work, have shown she is in renal failure...so now we have to deal with a low sodium and low phosphorus diet..luckily she can still have a dehydrated chicken piece as a treat..just now its better to be dark meat instead of the breast. Praying she doesnt worsen....going back in one month for recheck to see if the diet changes are managing the condition...
