What they said. My dog a great Labradane loves people and other dogs unless he is on leash. Does not do well greeting other dogs if he is on leash, then he seems to feel the need to protect.

I don't care if it's a 3 lb. yorkie or a 150lb rottie. I would not own, nor expose the public to a dog that bites.
I've worked as an RN in the ER-I've seen people lose limbs because of cat bites. Any thing with a mouth can cause a lot of damage if it bites, including humans.

I really don't have the answer. But there are lots of private parks with no breed restrictions and only a few privater parks that do have them. When I come across parks with restrictions I just move down the road to the next place. It's an easy decision for me.

I think most states/counties/cities are self-insured. If that's the case, they don't have an insurance company deciding breed restrictions. Private campgrounds can't afford to be self-insured so their insurance company makes those decisions for them.

And I'm with pconroy328. I would rather get bitten by a Pom than a Pit or Dobie. Have you seen Pits and Dobies bite? Pits hold on and shake, and Dobies bite in rapid succession. I hear its all about insurance. However There are only a few places that I would go that have breed restrictions.
There are alternative CG to those places only a few miles away.
Are those places living on the edge? Do they have high risk policies that allow ALL dogs.
Or does their management/owners/insurance companies just have common sense!

I grew up with a big dog, a Golden. And now we have a little one - A Corgi mix. Plain facts are: most pet owners can't/won't talk about this rationally. It's too emotional for them.

Someone else posted it, to an insurance company, it's all about stats.



If nothing else, think about it this way: pretend you're going to get bitten. Would you rather it be a Pomeranian or a Pit Bull?

I love these Rottie pics! The hats definitely help make them look more friendly. Another thing that scares people are prong collars. They see that collar and think the dog needs it because it is aggressive, etc.

I am very cautious approaching all dogs because I know the little ones can be mean too. Our 15 lb lhasapoo is a sweet dog but she is leery of strangers and doesn't like dogs bigger than her (she has been attacked a few times). Our 30 lb mini golden doodle likes everyone. She thinks humans are there for her enjoyment. Unfortunately, I have noticed that some of our little dog's aloofness is rubbing off on her.
