BATTERY DISCONNECT SOLENOID

JUST PUT CHARGED BATTERIES IN FOR THE SPRING AND MY DISCONNECT WONT WORK. NO 12 VOLT. CAN I BYPASS THE SOLENOID?
  • can you bypass it sure

but i would go looking for what is missing

i think you dropped a wire that is supposed to be on there, or you broke a small wire internally

the fact you can jumper the solenoid and get a click
means no power to the switch
or the maybe the switch died

    second thoughts

are you 'sure' you put the batteries in with the correct wiring and polarity

    (2) 6v in series, (2) 12v parallel, or you end up with 24v..oops

    trailer RV ?
    white wire is ON Neg/grd
    blk wire on Positive/hot
  • Have you checked to see if you have 12v to ONE side of the relay? If no power is getting TO the relay, it can't work.
  • Yes use a heavy gauge wire between the large posts. It would be best to use min number 10 wire, but best to use same size as goes to the 12 volt distribution panel. That should be same as what attaches to the coach's side of relay.
Have you verified 12 volts DC on the battery side of relay?
  • The solenoid(battery disconnect latching relay) that is controlled by the battery disconnect switch. 12 volt is not working in the rv. No power to the switch by the entry steps on my 2012 Jayco Melbourne 29D.If I run power to the small posts on the front of the solenoid (which is inside the battery box) I hear it click, but no power on the big posts on the sides.Wondering if i can somehow bypass the shutoff solenoid and get 12 volt working inside.
  • Are you talking about the solenoid that allows for the coach batteries to be charged by the engine when the engine is running or a switch that you turn off to stop parasitic battery draw?
If it is the battery isolator that prevents the engine battery from being discharged by the coach, you can end up stranded if you bypass it because your engine battery can be killed by the using power in the coach without running the engine.
  • Yes, you can bypass the relay, but why is it not working.
    Make and model of rig?
    Please turn off your caps!
