Chevy 2500 factory brake controller

Picking up a 2009 silverado 2500 in a few days. It has a factory brake controller installed in the dash, but I want to use my P3. Is there a way to bypass it, or just wire it in through the box under the dash?
  • I love the factory controller on my F-250. I had a brake issue and it popped up a fault on the screen when it happened. It stops very smooth with the factory controls.
  • My F-150's TBC gives feedback, and also will pulse the trailer brakes as part of the ABS, as well as if it starts swaying. Plus, it is easy to squeeze the brakes lightly to doublecheck the trailer is hooked up without issue.

I would figure the P3 would be far superior to the factory. The stock controller is nothing more than a slide with a +/- button. The P3 gives voltage readings and other warnings about you braking system back to you. Which is very convenient when you lose brakes and it tells you there is an open ground or short someplace.

Try it first, maybe the controller gives feedback. The controller on my F150 gives feedback on the screen for the setting and if the connection is not good.
  • Your factory controller gives the same information as the P3, only in a much easier to read location, in the dash display system. I have had both a P3 and now the factory system and IMO, the factory system wins, hands down.

  • I have the factory controller in my 2007.....love it. Give it a try first.

I agree. At least give the factory installed one a chance.
Try it, you might like it.
  • Why would you not want to use the factory installed controller? The P3 is a good controller but I think the factory one would work better. To connect the P3 I think you have to do something to disable/disconnect the factory one and it wouldn't be a simple plug in thing.
