I have a Surge Guard 40250 with an automatic transfer switch. I'm currently hooked up to shore power at a big rv park.My problem over the past couple days is my surge protector keeps shutting down the electric to my rig (about 7 times in the last 2 days). Here is what I've observed from the digital readout remote installed with the surge guard: L1 voltage would be 132 and L2 voltage would be 127 with only a 1 or 2 amp load on each line. Then I'd turn the electric water heater on (10amp load). L1 voltage would go to 133 and L2 voltage would be 125. I would when also add another 10 amp load with the electric heat pump. Both the electric water heater and electric heat pump are on L2. After about 15 seconds, my surge protector disconnects the shore power from my rig because of high voltage in L1.I plan on contacting the office of the rv park tomorrow, but wanted to get people's opinion on this forum. What's going on here? Thanks in advance.

It appears you have a faulty NEUTRAL conductor (high resistance) some where feeding your pedestal.

Not something on my rig?Somewhere between the point of L1 and L2 measurements and the supply source. If the surge protector is at the pedestal then it is the parks problem. If the surge protector is in the RV then you need to suspect the RV wiring to the pedestal as well.

Yes a defective neutral between your rig and the power source.If you have a volt meter check between the power legs and neutral at the pedestal. then check between the power legs and ground. Then measure between ground and neutral for voltage.Inspect your shore power cord pedestal end for discoloration which could indicate your cord body could be going bad.I would report the problem to the campground NOW.

The neutral often overheat because of the 100% duty cycle. They should run a larger gauge, but they never do. There is no shortage of loads in a RV park.MM49

Both of my red lights are on when I'm hooked up. So what does that mean? No description in any Surge Guard paperwork I've ever seen.

When we came into a state campground a couple of weeks ago, one of the red lights on our surge guard wouldn't go out, contacted the Rangers and the next day they came out, shut off electricity in pedestal, and fixed the pedestal.

Someone had switched the hot & neutral wires, now all is good with pedestal, our lights, and the surge guard.

Scratch the recalibration, I want this OUT of my RV. I don't want to waste time and money 'trying to fix' this useless Surge Guard. If I "fix" it now, I'll have to still "fix" it again and again in the future. It will be cheaper replacing it with something else. Goodbye Surge Guard!

I have the 40250, but one the many techs I've had to talk to about this ordeal said that the 40240 is similar. Thanks for the info, I'll tell the next tech I work with. I don't know how much a transfer switch is (or even what it looks like) but if its 30% the cost of a new Progressive Industries Surge Protector, I'll choose the more money route just to get rid of this TRC brand Surge Guard and have something else so I can enjoy Rving instead of screwing around with all this.

Does not appear it has any user adjustments.
The terminations on each end should be checked for corrosion and then for tighteness.

Tomorrow, I'll try moving and see how it goes. If that doesn't fix it, I suppose I'll pay $119 per hour for someone to "try" and recalibrate it. If that doesn't work I will never be buying a TRC Surge Guard product ever again. Even one of the above works out, I will not ever buy a TRC Surge Guard product again. It's way too frustrating.

The unit needs to be calibrated so as to be measuring the voltages accurately. A +4% ball park measurement will not cut the mustard.

Seeing you have had this problem at three different CGs and are still having the problem with the remote indicator disconnected.

Did the RV mobile tech check the connections at the surge guard, at the transfer switch, at the main ac panel?

If all connections are clean & tight........then that leaves the surge guard itself...which only has a one year warranty.

If you have to replace (surge protection with over/under voltage trips are good) should consider getting a Progressive Industries Model. Lifetime warranty.

Is there anothewr power pedestal close by to plug your rig into? This could prove whether it is in your rig or supply spoource.

New Update: Even with the remote for the surge guard disconnected, I'm still losing power. 3 times over the last 24 hrs. I'm at a loss... :(
