Couple of issues

Hello all,
I very recently purchased my first TT (2001 Keystone Springdal 247FB)I took it out for a short break in trip this weekend and have a couple of issues I need to resolve. First, as I approached the camp ground, the right rear brake completly locked up. Now I assume it's because the brake controller was set too aggressively. Just wondering what a good general setting is for the brake controller. Second issue, the slide out wouldn't slide in when preparing to depart the camp ground. My question on this is, does the 01 Springdale 247FB typically has a power inverter that would operate the slide, or does it run off the batteries? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
  • There is no general setting for a controller. If there was only one wheel that locked up I would suspect brakes need to be adjusted.

Nearly all slide rooms operate directly from the battery and they have a fuse in the positive line, usually located close to the battery.
  • If only one side is locking up I would suspect the brakes need to be adjusted properly at the wheel. Once the brakes are adjusted, then you can adjust your controller to prevent lock up or cause lock up.

The slideout will also have a circuit breaker that may trip due to overload. You may have to reset it. Its a 12v circuit breaker usually located near your batteries. Black about an 1 1/2 " long with a micro switch to push to reset.
  • I know brakes on a vehicle are a litle different but I took a Ram Charger into the shop for a brake job. One of the brakes kept locking up afterward. Their new mechanic had intalled the shoes backward on one wheel. I would do a complete inspection. Make sure drums, linings etc are all Ok.
  • The rig should have a converter. When plugged into shore power the converter charges the batteries. The 12 volt items will operate on the converter.
When not connected to shore power the rig will operate off the batteries. You will not have any 120 volt AC available.
Your brake problem could be improperly adjusted brake shoes. As previously posted, you need to get manual for your brake controller and adjust it. Adjustment will vary for each tow vehicle. There could be issues with the wiring for the brakes on the trailer like worn brake shoes or magnets. I would start by adjusting the brake controller. Sometimes in a tight turn the brakes could lock up on the inside wheels of the turn.

    Choice B.
  • Slides depend on battery power. If your battery was down that would explain that problem. Next time connect your tow vehicle and start the motor. That should help.
As for the brakes? Several things could have caused that problem. Break away cable came out, brakes not adjusted properly, brake controller not adjusted properly.
As for proper controller adjustment? In a parking lot accelerate to about 20MPH and using the hand control. Apply the trailer brakes. If the wheels lock up and slide, back off just a bit and try again. The trailer brakes should bring you down to a stop from 20 with no wheel lock.
