Dometic 1350 temperature problems

I have a Dometic 1350 fridge in my 2014 Montana. The unit has been back to the dealer about cooling problems. The first trip the dealer said that a baffle and insulation was added to correct the problem. Wrong!!! didn't help nor make it worse. Next trip the dealer had the unit 8 business days and said that the thermistor was bad so replaced and wrong again temp still rises to 53 in the day time.
My question is has anyone use styrofoam to make the inside area of the fresh food area smaller to help maintain the temps? What I was thinking was making a dummy wall about 9" from the existing left hand wall using the styrofoam and dropping the top of the fresh food area down about 5" to clear the cooling fins to make the 12 cu ft down to a smaller size. Has anyone have any experience in doing this or something similar?
Thanks in advance for all your comments in regards to my question.
  • Call Dometic and explain your problem. It is obvious the dealer does not know what the problem is.
  • Don't give up and try to make the box smaller.
Contact Dometic stay after them they will fix or replace it.
    Good Luck, Mike
  • Making the food section smaller using styrofoam will NOT solve your issue.

Fridge is 'chasing ambient air temps'........
Food section cools down late afternoon/evenings/early mornings when ambient air temps are down and then food section temps increase during mid-day when ambient air temps rise.
That is a ventilation issue. Insufficient air flow across cooling unit due to improper installation/baffling/clearances etc.

Also a set of 12V DC thermostatic controlled pan-cake fans installed just below the low temp evaporator (freezer) blowing up with thermostat installed on condenser will help move air across cooling unit.
  • Either park so the fridge is not in direct Sun,or make a Simple Awning to Shade the lower Access panel.
Then monitor....watch the Temperature to determine if this helps.
Be sure to keep the fridge mostly full of non perishable items such as Water bottles or Beverage Cans while testing. No sense ruining Good Food.
These RV Fridges are easily affected by Ambient Outside Temperature and keeping them Shaded and Full really helps to maintain a constant temperature. Installing Fans in the Exhaust Flue helped Ours perform better, but shading the Lower Intake Without restricting the airflow worked even better!
