Thank you Shastagary for the links I have book marked them as for the Panasonic Number I do not know luckily we have not had to shop for the motor yet, it is still the original motor from 1992

Hi we got the Fan-Tastic Vent Upgrade Kit To Model 7350 for our 5 wheel ... Yes I think it's wonderful for cough us short people.
Only thing is we are in Florida where in summer you have an electrical storm is practically an everyday occurance. So far we have gone through 3 of the circut boards KIB MC103 which has now changed part numbers to Fan-Tastic Vent Printed Circuit Board 9056-90. There seems to be an issue with these boards not being sheilded, because as I said b4 when we have bad electrical storm even with no power connected to the RV (while we were inside) there was enough static electricity in the air to hear it pop. No it was not actuall struck by lightning. If this had happaned just the once I would of put it down as a fluke but it has happened on multiple occasions. I came across this forum whilst looking for a replacement circut board again.... If we ring Fantastic but they say we have to buy the hole Fan-Tastic Vent Upgrade Kit To Model 7350 again.

Any ways hope this helps somebody else if you have any idea on sheilding the new board or know where to find one please let me know

Ken Burke: Did you check the fuse? Did you check for 12 volts feeding the fuse?

@Ken_burke, It would be easier for us to see if you have any issue in the circuit board if you can upload any pictures of the circuit. A three way switch generally doesn’t give any issues of complete dis-connectivity so it might be the switch board. If you have a multi-meter, measure voltages at different points and let us know. It is not that big of an issue actually, from what I can guess you’re thinking on spending more money on a new fan and this can be repaired in less. See if there is any electronics shop nearby and they will probably be able to repair it for much less.

Find exact fit brushes, and I'll ask Saint Mary's Carbon to come up with brushes that will last twice as long. Quarter gauge larger leads. Let me know if the brushes you settle on have the correct length leads. Adding a bit of colloidal copper to the brush is a miracle to reduce accumulated residue. PM me, to keep this project from clogging the forum.

To the O/P,
If you have notfound the problem yet ,look for a one shot thermal fuse hidden up above the speed control switch.

When I rebuild the other Fantastic Vent motor I have I will try to document it carefully.

This rebuild was a hasty get-it-done just in time for the first campout. I didn't even replace the brushes, just got them to push out a little further. The motor is living on borrowed time until I replace the brushes.

Yes, $60 plus shipping is a lot for a 12VDC pancake motor with just plain brushes, not even a brushless design. It does seem odd to design a sealed motor with inaccessible brushes. They must have either figured the brushes would last longer than they do or didn't care. I like to run my Create-A-breeze fan most of the summer to ventilate the trailer, so that probably accelerated the brush wear. the motor seems well built, just not built to repair.

Steve, If you document your motor rebuild start to finish including part numbers, size drill for the spotwelds, size of screws or rivets for reassembly and lots of images, it may well qualify for a sticky on this forum (up to the moderator of course). Ever since the company sold and now can be relabeled "Almost Fantastic" your work may have a lot of future thank-you's coming your way. Sixty bucks, plus tax and shipping is a rip-off.

I just took my Fantastic Vent motor apart to see what is causing it to fail. This is the third one in 9 years that failed the same way.

The motor is not designed to be disassembled, but if you drill out 3 "spot welds" it come apart after prying a little bit. The brushes were worn out and were only intermittently contacting the commutator. The brush material that had worn away had turned to fine dust and was all over the inside of the motor. I cleaned out the inside of the motor using a fast-evaporating circuit board flux remover. The brushes had worn away and the brush wire hit a stop that keeps the brushes from coming out all the way. For a temporary fix, I moved the stop out of the way and the brushes now push properly. This fix will only last a short while, however (maybe a month or so). Since it's unlikely the brushes will be available from Fantastic Vent, I will buy some generic brushes from Sears hardware and sand them to fit. I have a previous motor from the fan and will take that one apart to see if it's a similar fix. The motor was pop riveted back together and it works fine now. Beats paying $50-$75 for a replacement motor.
