Freezer Cold/Fridge Not

I have a Dometic DM2652 RBX. The trailer is plugged into 120V and the freezer is near 0 but the refrigerator is not cooling down at all. It is in Auto mode, no gas connected. I do not see any obvious fuses blown. Any thoughts on why half the unit is working and the other half is not?
  • In over simple terms, the freezer gets most of the cooling, and anything left over goes to the refrigerator. Common causes for this:
    1. Unit has not been turned on long enough. Allow 24 hours.
    2. Unit is not level.
    3. Unit has a partial blockage in the cooling coils.
  • I had the same problem. The bottom would only get to 60. I added a computer fan in the back of the unit at the bottom. I already had one at the top but now it pushes air up and the top fan helps to exhaust. I also added a small battery operated fan inside the refrigerator. It now gets down to 34 degrees and drops the temp 40 degrees in 6 hours. Total cost less than $20.
  • I would say that your fridge is in need of service. Do yourself a favor and have it looked at right away.
  • I leveled the TT and the refrigerator is now getting to just below fifty after 12 hours of cooling. The day time temps are still over 100 degrees here though, I'll give it 24. Is it possible that the refrigerator needs a recharge of coolant? I'm not quite sure how the TT fridges work.

freezer always gets colder faster than the fridge part.
  • We have spent the summer in NM with high temps and morning sun on the refrigerator side. Ours did the same thing. We added a computer fan on the outside access blowing upward and the frig got 10 degrees cooler. After spring winds died down some we put our awning out and frig stays at normal temps now. Freezer was always cold enough. Others here that have 5th wheels with frigs in the slideouts and afternoon sun are having a terrible time keeps their frigs cool. The repairmen are out here constantly. Only 1 smart guy in the bunch. He built a shade tarp for that slide and his frig is doing okay.
  • No recharge. Off level operation can damage a propane fridge in short time.

Some people have burped their absorption refrigerators and I did that once and it seemed to help. (google it).

What brought my dometic fridge form the dead was:
four CPU cooling vans in the roof vent for the fridge. I have two switches that power 2 fans and only turn on all 4 fans when the temps are above 90 deg F. When temps are 70 to 90 deg, I use only 2 fans. I turn all fans off at nighttime.

I also installed 2 micro fans inside my fridge on the cooling fins to blow air around.

With vent fans, internal fans, and a SNIP THE TIP adjustable thermistor, my biggest problem is prevent my food from freezing. WHen my fridge is fully packed, it stays at a 35-37 deg F all day long. When items get consumed, I have to adjust the thermister so it doesn't get below 32 deg F.

    Best mods I've ever done.

This states it all. You have been running off level and that RUINS Cooling units. LEVEL operation on RV refers is a must. Running off level will not allow it to cool correctly and starts the process of destroying the Cooling unit. You cannot recharge them. They are sealed and if it had a leak the ammonia smell would let you know or you would see the tell tale yellow powder on the back of the CU. Once partially blocked or fully blocked, there is nothing you can do to fix it. You have to replace the cooling unit. Doug
