Fridge plugged into 120v AC

The converter on my trailer is bad. I don't want to burn through my propane till we are camping.
Can I unplug the fridge from the outlet on the trailer and plug it straight into the wall socket of my house 120v AC.

No, fridge needs 12 volt for control.

And the converter does NOT supply 120 volts to anything.. it CONVERTS 120 to 12

Now.. If you removed your entire power distribution panel and plugged in a small smart charger to maintain the batteries THEN the answer is YES
But you need both 12 and 120 volts for the fridge.

Did the fridge work with the old battery?
If so I vote for a reversed connection when you installed the new one.

Put a small battery charger on your battery and switch the refer to AC. You do own a cheap 10amp charger?
  • Brand new battery.......so you should have 12V DC to RV.

Converter bad........so it can't supply DC system OR charge battery

Unplug it/disconnect it from AC power source. It is just a drain on AC system.

Fridge will run on AC power with RV plugged into AC power source....battery will supply needed 12V DC for fridge control circuit BUT only for a while cause trickle charger won't keep up with drain on battery.
Will need to put a battery charger on it IF you plan on running fridge or any other 12V DC items....until new converter.

AND when you hooked up that new battery......hope you connected it without swapping +/- cables.
There are 'reverse polarity' fuses on converter that will blow if battery connected backwards and then you will NOT have any DC inside RV.

WHY do you NEED to run fridge?

Hope RV is level..when running fridge or you will have more expensive issues

The converter is not working properly, it will kick out 13.7v but when it gets hot it only puts out 11.9v and the fan never turn on. The converter will have to wait till next paycheck.

Nope, it needs 12 volts for the controls to work. The issue is not the 120 volts, it's the 12.
There is no difference between plugging into 120V in your house and the 120V that is supplied through the trailer when plugged into shore. It has nothing to do with your converter.
If you need to power the converter off, then unplug it!

What is the state of your battery? If that is charged you would be OK, but you need a way to KEEP it charged. Battery charger maybe?

Edit - I guess I type slow - Corkey05 beat me to it!
  • If your converter is bad & your battery is dead it isn't supplying the 12 volts your refrigerator control board needs to manage your fridge. The converter has nothing to do with 120v AC no matter where you plug it in.

Check the output of the converter with a Volt Meter to see if it's charging at all. Sometimes all it amounts to is the fuse in the converter.
