Generator and ac

However, if you are not electrically knowledgable, I would get someone who is! If you do this yourself, those capacitors can kill you. Keep your hands away from the leads and use insulated tools. The capacitors do not have + or -, so it could be hooked up either way. There are more videos on YouTube about hard start capacitors. Even on RV's. Good luck.

So this generator should handle running the ac?

Exactly. I have an champion 3500/4000 peak running my 13.5 older ac on 96 wilderness. I still had to put an hard start cap on my ac after making sure that Genny was working on other loads. I noticed that the ac would start better as it needs a bunch of amps to get ac motor going. In my case, I could tell the AC would not get the compressor going until some more amps came from hard start cap.

Worst case, the manufacturer undersized the primary/idle jet ! You A/C is pushing it to a higher load than the saw. Hopefully a GOOD cleaning will make it run well.

If this is NOT a brand new generator, remove the fuel tank and clean it out ! If there is the tiniest piece of dirt in the tank it will clog the jet again.

It is almost NEVER a governor problem !

That's called a lean roll. The main jet could be restricted.

The main jet is very easy to clean on most small engines (it is the nut that holds the bowl on). The emulsion tube is usually directly above it and should get at least a squirt of carb cleaner.

The most common cause of surging (lean roll) is a clogged primary/idle jet. On modern carburetors this is NOT adjustable and usually requires complete disassembly of the carburetor to clean. Cleaning must include probing all small passages with a very thin stiff wire (a single bristle from a steel wire brush works well).

Usually a clogged primary/idle jet will cause surging under all loads. If adding some choke cures your problem, it is likely the primary/idle jet.

The correct description for the symptom is "Hunting". Usually a governor issue.

There are various ways to tap into a seven wire stator. None of them will afford more than 65% potential of rated watts using 120 volts on a 240 volt machine
