I have no experience with this subject and I am wondering if induction cooking significantly lessens the amount of space heating.I chased a dozen online threads to no avail. Opinions even varied about the cooking process itself. So I return here where I know I'll get straight answers :)Can't do it on battery/inverter power, that's obvious. But I am weary of a 110F kitchen. Outside it's out of the question....critterland.

With induction the energy is directed only at the pan. It takes less time to get the pan hot enough to cook, so there is less heat transfer there. In comparison the propane stove is so wasteful that just making coffee on the stove could warm up our 13 ft trailer on a freezing cold morning. Breakfast would cook you out.

I was asking Don (Pianotuna) about this, last week. He uses an induction cooktop in his rig. Once you have the heat transferred up to the cooking level, the cooktop uses not that much juice.

Liked it so much bought one for the MH too. Pan must be magnetic and some SS pans are so check with a magnet. Very fast and it's warm to the touch as soon as you take the pan off.

We use induction at home and the RV. Love it, very efficient way to cook. Got a bunch of SS pots/pans from IKEA at a very reasonable price. Lighter than the pans we had before and we can still use them on the propane stoves if need be.

Good Stainless steel is not very magnetic
The few people I have seen using induction cook tops
Used cast iron, or other iron cookware
Induction only works with iron and steel,

I checked the cupboards and found an egg poacher that was sort of magnetic. Somehow cast iron and springs and tires do not seem to mix very well. Any clue as to the grades of stainless that work the best ie 18-8 versus 18-10? Most of my cookware is copper clad :(

yes he did.. I took SS to mean Stainless Steel

Induction-compatible cookware contains ferromagnetic materials – in other words, it contains iron, or has a layer with magnetic properties. Cast iron, enamel cast iron and most types of stainless steel cookware are all induction compatible (But not all types – for instance, All-Clad's MC2 line, which is made of aluminum and stainless steel, is not induction compatible). /p>

Aluminum, copper or glass cookware will not work unless they have a layer on the bottom with magnetic properties.

To tell if a pot or pan is induction-compatible, hold a magnet to the bottom. If it clings, the cookware will work on an induction cooktop. Also, many manufacturers have started putting a n "induction compatible" symbol on the bottom of their cookware or they'll note compatibility on their packaging. The symbol often looks like a horizontal zig-zag or a coil.
