Inverter question

We run a 19 inch TV and a Tailgater satellite system off of a 150w inverter, sometimes all day and half the night. We do have a solar system and the battery is a 8-D so power is never a issue.

Ya but, there is always the question will it handle the charging voltages of sometimes well over 15 volts.

Most flat screen TV's are 12 volt to begin with. They have what's often called a wall wart, that's on the end of the cord that plugs into the 120 volt wall receptacle. If you look close at that wall wart, it will tell you that it's input is 120v and if the out put is 12v. That cord can be unplugged from the TV. Now just find a new cord that one end will plug into the TV, and the other end will plug into your 12v outlet, and has the same polarity.

Depends on the battery size. If you have 2 each 8D batteries, at 120 pounds each, you can watch TV all night long with 220 AH per battery. A group 24 battery is about 65 AH per battery, while group 27 is more like 100, along with group 30 and 31. Going with golf cart batteries, then the pair of 6 volts add up to 220 amp hours, and should last about 6 hours of running the inverter.

I highly recommend a solar charging system. It will keep the batteries topped up while in storage, and can top off the batteries while camping, depending on the system size.

100 - 150 watt panels will fit on most roofs.

Look for 12 volt "Nominal" panels *the open circuit will be around 21.2 volts*. Also buy a PWM solar controller rated for slightly more amps than the total of your panel capacity.

It's all about picture brightness how many watts the TV draws. On a 32inch LG LED it is about 70w Vivid, 50w Standard, and 35w Cinema.

A 32inch Samsung LCD is 120w Dynamic, 80w Standard, and 70w Movie, so you see how LED reduces the power requirement of an LCD TV.

A 300w inverter can run those easily plus the DVD and external powered speakers if any.

Your 27 will run between 60 and 100 watts only. We had a 400 watt and it ran it fine without the fan running in the inverter. It's a bit important to run silently, without the fan, as it is a long term load and a fan running only increases the load on the battery.

My Sony had a "low Power" mode that decreased the brightness of the screen and only used 56 watts for a 26 inch TV.

What is the max draw of the TV? It should be listed on the back.
The 700 watt is for surge type load and not for steady load.
