Norcold Recall Need Help!

I have the cooling unit change and I was right there were cracks below the tubes and the tech guy said the angle of the hose clamp is slightly tilt when it was tighten. The ref works better than when it was new. Just sharing experience..I shouldered all the expenses.

The ammonia hydrogen EATS (corrodes) the piping from the inside. It's similar to what happens to an exhaust pipe on an old car.

It would take "The Hose Clamp Of The Century", a long breaker bar, adapters and a weightlifter to have any chance at all of denting a good pipe.

Yet I can take a screwdriver and run next door and with two fingers jab it deep into my neighbor's badly corroded muffler.

RV refrigerator piping is too thin brand new. They have to make it that way for weight. The piping on an old Servel house LPG refrigerator is three times as thick, the refrigerator is stunningly heavy and yes the piping lasts much longer.

"The tire shop just put air in my tire and now the valve stem failed (cracks) so I am going to go back and ask for a new free valve stem".

Sorry about the expense. You should read my history of comments about just how far hurling a gas refrigerator is "far enough". Gas refrigerators are expensive, work poorly, unreliable, and I will never buy another.

The earliest Servels from Europe had nickel chromium alloy steel tubes. The Swedes didn't go through all that trouble for nothing.

I'll say that without inspection, I cannot say 100%, but I have worked on- literally- thousands of these units, and am an expert legal witness in the field, and *if* the hose clamp holding the thermocouple to the steel tubing actually did cause the failure, it was on the verge of failure anyway. These units are tested to over 800 psi, so they are not a fragile, brittle material.

Time to lawyer up, and good luck with that.

It doesn't surprise me at all that after someone got in there messing with it, a true failure occurred.

I truly believe that this recall was strictly to cover Norcold's keister. Nobody knows the frequency of reefer failures or fires due to that. But one thing's for sure -- a lot of problems showed up after the series of recalls began.

Lets play your game. The clamp was overtightened(NOT POSSIBLE). THAT would be the fault of the "RV tech" that installed it, NOT Norcold. BUT, you CANNOT tighten a Hose clamp too tight to break a steel weld and steel tube. The area where you had the leak is common when a cooling unit fails and leaks. Doug
