The "hockey puck" adapters are far more likely to over heat and melt.

So far i have priced out a 50 to 30 adapter at $39....not sure if all these adapters come as a dog bone but if possible i would love it as one solid piece.
Heres the thing, i have the adapter attached to a 30 amp ext cord with the c clamp. At most campgrounds i would prefer to eliminate the 30 amp extension which means plugging the adapter into the park pedestal ( wont be able to use the c clamp) so i will for sure require a new adapter.

Get some Deoxit. Use it from time to time. Monitor voltage, too.

Start watching for a good price on a male and female plug. You may wish to salvage the burnt adapter.

Noticed one more thing. The replacement 30 amp adapter wishbone which is also old, would not make a tight connection to the 30 amp cord and would crackle when i touch it. I put a c clamp on it to make a tight connection and will order a new 30 amp adapter.

Im guessing the 30 amp adapter is toast.

Follow up... while waiting for the new plug to come in i was able to remove the plug from the adapter! Plugged it back in and it still would not go in all the way, plugged it into a spare 30 amp adapter and it seated perfectly. Turned breaker on, no crackling, prong does not look burnt or damaged so i cancelled the new plug order.

good plan. I was going to suggest that the first beheading be on the cheaper cord and see if that can solve part of the problem.
