PulseTech SP-25 with Windy Nation 30 A Solar Charge Duh??

ok just bought our little 2011 Tioga Ranger 24L with a Solar Unit on Top which the Manual says is a Windy Nation. It also has a "box by the door low by step and house battery (?) which is called a Pulse Tech that has 4 differet lites indicating Power on Charge and Pulse Mode, Pulse Management and No connection. I downloaded both Manuals.
When it was delivered the lites on the Pulse Tech were lit up all the time I believe on the one indicating Power on. The Tech came out to fix the slide out not going out (no power) and after he left we discovered that the lite no longer was working. When asked about it we were told it is a "dumb" addition to the system and it was disconnected prior to our purchase. which I believe he is mistaken on that.... We are told it can just be removed. It was connected and working but not now. The Dealer Tech does not feel it is worth fixing? perhaps that is why he disconnected it? so I am wondering why its there and what it is...seems to not match up with Windy Nation? I am just the non tech wife here trying to get a little grip on solar..it sure looks ugly all the sloppy wires and I would not mind having it gone? but the previous owner must have put it in for some reason...please no complicated replies....thanks so much..
  • The WN 30 amp solar controller is the same as the Solar30 and several others, and is fine for the battery charging job using solar.

A few years ago there was an idea to run a pulse gizmo at the same time as doing battery charging ( ISTR Mr Wizard tried that for a while) and also there was/is the same thing for "reconditioning" or "desulfating" batteries as an alternative to high DC voltage desulfation as when "equalizing" The idea was to just run the pulse gizmo all the time, since it was not itself a battery charger.

(There are pulse type battery chargers but that is a totally different animal)

I suspect this pulse gizmo is one of those conditioners, and is not needed. The solar controller operates on its own and will do its job without the gizmo if that is so.
  • I see Pulse Tech hardware such as battery maintainers and de-sulfaters, etc.

    edit:
Second look said it's a 25 watt solar maintainer and desulfator.

Quite expensive item. But should do the same job as the other solar charge system depending on the model.

If it were mine I would ask the tech why he thinks you don't need it. I'd guess he unhooked it because he didn't want to repair it.
  • Do yo have a model#
    Or part#

Going by memory, it seems there was a little 7 amp solar controller , with that brands name

As I recall, it was a dead ringer copy of the "battery minder" solar controller from vdc technologies, and came with a 120v powered trickle charger and a tiny solar panel, a multipurpose plug let you decide which one to use
The controller would be good for up to about 100 max solar
  • I googled Pulse Tech, and it shows a battery charger - the kind you plug in to 120v.

Other than that, I can't comment much on your questions.
  • "seems to not match up with Windy Nation"

Everything I have "matches up" with my WindyNation solar system. Solar systems charge batteries. They don't manage slides. Not complicated.
