Replacing door locks

I don't know what brand of entry door locks you have but I suspect they are the disc type lock and most of them are pretty easy to restore to new. Look up the maker for the best information.

I just keyed and installed a new ignition lock on my F150. Pretty simple and after all was said and done, I could have just cleaned and lubed my existing lock. I did find out that the keys cut was not matched to the lock but the cylinder was so gunked up almost any Ford key would have worked.

My point being, they are really easier to repair and rekey than pin tumbler cores. Simple kits sold on Ebay and instruction can probably be found on Youtube.

Or just buy new with proper keys or have the new rekeyed. Let us know what the name if the maker is and I'll look it up in my catalogs.

Keyless lock

This is the one I got. Very easy to install, took maybe 10 minutes. It works very well, but as I said earlier, the first 2 had to be returned. This one seems fine.

Just replaced the entry door on our ACE because it broke. It was a TriMark brand easily found on Amazon for around $100. DO NOT BUY THIS LOCK!!!!! This is the lock that broke with the DW myself and two dogs inside. It is becoming well known as a dangerous problem because of frequent failure. Can't say for sure but I have heard TriMark sells a new version with a steel latch instead of cast zinc which was the weak point, around $200. I would buy this lock but did not.

Entry doors. The compartment doors work well.

I have replaced all of mine with These ,they can all be keyed alike so I only have one key for everything.

I also like that they have a cover on the key slot that moves when you insert the key,thus keeping all grime out.

The one thing fj12ryder didn't ask, is there a number like 751 on the head of the key or on the face of the lock core?

There were two primary keys in the early 90's, 751 and the other one has slipped my mind. If you can access the inside of the cabinet door, it is easy to remove the entire lock with either a wrench or a screwdriver depending on how the lock is held in place.

These locks are not sophisticated, but if you cannot unlock a cabinet, a locksmith can open it in a couple of minutes usually.

Go to TriMark, Camco or RV Designs and look at the locks available, or go to a RV dealer parts department and compare what you have to what's available and then pick one that suits your needs.

Ebay has literally hundreds of ads for cam locks that can be used. Don't fret too much about keeping the contents safe, most cabinet doors are easy to force, buy quality(TriMark) or anylock you are happy with.

I prefer the black ones with white numbers over the chrome with black numbers.

I took me about 20 minutes to figure out the first one, then another 20 minutes for the other 5.

I got the covers for them as well to keep the road and dirt out of the tumblers. I've never looked back.

For the door... I'm still trying to decide if it's worth the 200.00 for a pushbutton solution or not.

Time will tell.
