skid rollers

Had Camping World move the rollers moved back about 2"-3"... my rollers are working...making grooves in the roadway but no more nicks on my bumper. I put a 3' piece of 2x6 in the dip between the road and my driveway...I need to probably put a piece of plywood also. Someone suggested the air bags...I think that might be a direction to go. What a bug-a-boo!! :h

You are correct that a significant amount of the weight is shifted to the rear of the frame. I have a 34' Avion triple axle trailer that I put wheels on the rear. Very few times they have been used, but they are nice when needed. The Avion has a very strong frame. I would never consider doing what I did, to an Airstream.
Unless your driveway has a huge dip in it, there should still be some weight on the axles. With my 34' Avion being so low to the ground, I don't use it much anymore. I like to go back further off road than I can get it.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! I am taking all of them to CW tomorrow and see what they think! I do like the idea of the auxiliary height adjustment valve that raises the rear 3"...but also worry about tweaking the frame! Yikes! I'll post result here!

Yes, you risk bending the frame on brute force impact events. But for the run of the mill, slow 'n easy drags, I doubt it. Usually, I can see a drag coming, and I ease through it - if I can go slow enough to not have traffic broadside my rig as I'm entering/exiting the roadway slowly.

i know i have replaced broken skid rollers on pevious MH's

but i would rather replace rollers than my bumper or hitch or motorcycle carrier

Yeah, but putting rollers (or skids) on the back of the frame just lowers the point resulting in the frame being subjected to bottoming out all that more often. Can't be good.

Either way, weight is going to hit that part of the trailer, so better it hit a roller than bang into wall or frame construction directly. It isn't all the TT's weight, so tweaking the frame shouldn't be an issue, unless someone was unlucky.

I've also heard that by using rollers and when they bottom out, the weight of the trailer is shifted from the suspension (that is located across a large percentage of the center of the frame) directly to the end of the frame and may cause the frame to bend. Not sure of the validity of this...

Isn't that whey they make 2x6"s. I use four sections when getting my 5'vr in and out our driveway.

MarshaNichols - skid roller will just allow even less clearance. IMHO, not a good solution.

The other poster had very good ideas for proper solutions.
