slide motor not working

bedroom slide quit working last summer, had to crank in by hand, are all slide motors same or different. 5er is 2008 durango 325 w/3 slides. any help is appreciated
  • There are probably 30 or 40 different electric slide motors over the years, But, the RPM's can be different even on the same RV with multiple slides. The Transmission assbly can have different torque parameters. You need to get the Brand and model of the failed Motor/Transmission to get the correct replacement. Some, you can replace just the motor and not the drive/trans assbly. Others you must buy the complete unit. Doug

Can't really help but you other than to say I'm surprised you're having problems as slide pundits here on the forum insist that slide failure just doesn't happen. :W I'm a Doubting Thomas - every time I push my own slide button I wonder "Is this the time it won't work?" :R

You're not alone. I look at the slide--as well as the power awning--and I see Mr. Murphy hiding in the bushes. Call me paranoid, but the very first thing I did when I bought this new TT was figure out exactly how to deal with a failure in either of these systems.

Please reference those "pundits" that state slide failures never happen. I have been on forums for almost 20 years and have NEVER seen any post that stated such a thing. To think that is crazy. Doug

Yes, check there first. I believe I have a thermal-limiter switch too which will halt the slide if the motor is working too hard. It will reset in a few seconds. Sounds like that's not Op's problem.

Anyway, if you can find that circuit board, see if you can bypass it with a short wire just to determine if the motor is still ok.

  • My slide has quit working a few times and here's what was wrong:
Usually it was a very tiny circuit breaker had tripped. My circuit breaker is located near the control unit for the slide which is near the battery compartment and fuse panel. The circuit breaker is black, about an inch and a half long with two wires hooked to it . The reset is a small micro switch; when you push it, it doesn't feel like it does anything but it will reset the breaker.
One time one of the wire connections at the motor had come loose. The wire nut holding the connection together came off. I put on a new wire nut and all has been OK since.
