Slide mechanism and motor

How long does the slide mechanism on a double slide and the motor generally last on most 5th wheels

  • My Hydraulic system lasted 14 years before the cylinders needed to be rebuilt.
  • The slide I am asking about is as follows:
    2007 Arctic Fox 27.5
It houses the dining booth and couch
It is a Power Gear System
  • Please offer us year make and model of rig which will help all of us to help you. Slide outs are pretty basic, however, some have changed over the years. Also, when you update include if its a kitchen slide or a dinette/sofa slide, etc. This will help.
  • When you say double slide, are you referring to the slide within a slide that you find on a few of the Redwood and Heartland bedrooms?
  • They should last a very long time, although I have read the Schwintek design can be an issue if it isn't used correctly. Apparently there is a technique to follow when using the Schwintek design slides.

Mine is nearly 10 years old and still works flawlessly, but mine is hydraulic.
  • Thanks for that info.
It is a double slide and is electric.
Bed slide has already been worked on and is good
  • The slide mechanisms are usually very dependable. My older 5er is 12 years old, and I've never had an issue with it. I'm not sure what type of maintenance is necessary with a slide. I don't believe that you should lubricate any of the parts, since that tends to just attract dirt which can be detrimental. I do use powder on the inner and outer seals to be sure that they move freely past the slide rooms when they open and close. The main thing to watch is to ensure there are no objects which could jam against the slide when it opens or closes.
  • Hydraulic powered slide? Electric powered slide? Schwintek style slide? What exactly are you referring to as "a double slide"? Size or positioning?
