STEP

Hello I HAVE A THREE STAIR STEP THAT WILL NOT STAY OUT WHEN THE DOOR IS CLOSED. The STEP SWITCH IS IN THE RIGHT POSITION . This is on a 2016 Newmar Canyon star. Thank you for any help.
  • Either the step switch breaks a connection and the connection is shorted

    or

the step switch makes a connection and the switch is bad or the connection is broken somewhere else along the wire.

Some testing with a volt/amp meter is called for.
  • Hello My step is still having an issue. I took the switch out a step still came back in. So now I took the magnet off the screen door and that fixed the problem. Does that help for any advice. Thank you.

On Kwikee we also need to know if it's old "Square control box) or newer "Looks like a triangle" control box (Really a trapizoid but that don't matter).

However I will make a suggestion.
All the plugs near the control box (Under the RV with the steps out. above the top extended step when the steps are in) unplug and re-plug a couple times and see if it helps.

next step is the fine manual and a volt meter to see if teh switch is working or failed.

There is a 5 amp fuse somewhere that may have popped as well.

NOTE: also check for voltage on the Ignition sense lead as that will override the switch on both old and new.. I think (am not sure without checking) that's the yellow wire.
  • Look under the step and you will see 4 wires. yellow/Red/Brown/White
RED is the power. You have that as step works. White is from the kill switch. IF THAT WIRE HAS 12 volts, THAT is your problem. The Yellow should only have 12 volts if the Engine Key switch is ON. IF you have 12 volts when engine key switch OFF, THAT is your problem. The brown comes from the Magnetic switch and obviously works since you removed it. Doug
