Sunlight vents leak, Dicor time

What is the proper prep for cleaning up and applying Dicor sealant around items on the roof that could leak, once the Dicor starts showing splits?
  • Remove the Dicor and use Sikaflex 715 urethane.
    Watch this video for ideas:

  • Your title says "sunlight," be careful with Dicor on this one. Some skylight makers have a special brand they want you to use so as not to dry out the skylight plastic. Look at your owners manual, or call the maker of the skylight to make sure. They do become brittle and crack if you use the wrong product.
  • You're Welcome. Cleaning up the old stuff is always the big question, and I've seen everything from alcohol to turpentine to mineral spirits mentioned as a good cleaner. If you just use some of the Dicor Roof Cleaner used in the video, you can't go wrong?

Check the tube but IIRC, it says to use mineral spirits.
You might also consider using Eternabond tape.

Sounds like that's a little more permanent. Does that work around raised surfaces above an EDM roof like flanges from sunlights and such?

    really either will work fine.
EB tape does a nice job on uneven surfaces. Just make sure you follow the directions exactly and use a roller to finish it off.
The down side is it's more of a challenge to get off it you ever need to replace the skylight.

EB tape is especially nice for caulking joints that want to crack repeatedly.
