Tire Date Codes

Question

It was my understanding that all tires should have date codes on them. My brother put new tires on his horse trailer in 2013. They are Commadore china bombs and I can not locate a 4 digit date code on them. I do see a 4 letter code, but do not know if that has anything to do with the manufacture date. Any ideas?

They come after the letters DOT and are usually put on with a brand so they look different than part of the mold when the tires were designed and the rest of the letters were molded into the rubber.
