It helps if you can provide a make and model of the toilet to give help that matches your toilet. Also, tell us if yours has a hand sprayer to add an extra rinse to the bowl that looks like a kitchen sink sprayer at home.

And as was asked, does the water spray always, only when you flush the toilet, or when the hand sprayer is used if you have that option?

If by chance you have a Dometic/Sealand china bowl toilet, model 110, 210, or a 300 series toilet, these are some of the possible leaks when the foot pedal is pressed.

1. The foot pedal water valve leaks from the valve plunger stem. This can also leak even if the foot pedal is not pressed.

2. The foot pedal water valve is cracked from freezing over the winter as it was not winterized correctly. This can also leak even if the foot pedal is not pressed.

3. When the foot pedal is pressed, there is a vacuum breaker with a check valve on the back center of the toilet; if the check valve is bad and does not seal off when the foot pedal pressurizes the water line, water can spray out.

4. If you have the optional bowl sprayer, the hose may be split/cracked, or the clamp loose, leaking water, possibly from a bad winterization. The hose feeding the vacuum breaker is pressurized by the foot pedal water valve even if the sprayer is not used.

Generic help for any brand, use a mirror and a flashlight if needed, but look behind the toilet to see where the spraying water is originating from. Then, ask about the item the water is coming from. Pictures help greatly in these cases.

I hope this helps,

Does it spray when you use the toilet flush, or when you use the black tank spray/rinse?

If it is the valve leaking by then you can get valve replacement kits on Amazon. The Thetford is easy to install. You do not mention the brand and model but you will need that to order the parts. Lots of YTube videos on this subject.
