Water Heater Question

Some water heaters have a switch outside in the water heater compartment. Yours may and some have a 120 volt plug to plug in.

I would think the W H is on a breaker and not a fuse.

My water heater has a 120V switch inside the control panel inside the coach and it has a small on off switch just inside the OUTSIDE access panel to the w/heater.

One question - are you plugged in to shore power? The electric heater will not work on 12 volt.

"...the switch is on and the warning light never came on…" sounds like no 120 electric.

The heating element may be burned out!

The 700 to 1,000 watt electric element is much slower to heat than the 8,800 Btu gas heat.

However after 1 hour, the water should have gone from about 55F to at least 85 or 100F. 4 hours and it should have shut off at 120 - 140F. So yes, something is not working right.

Look for a outside switch - just inside the outdoor access panel, like suggested above, and make sure it is plugged in to shore power too.

If it is a Suburban Brand WH......
There is an ON/OFF switch in outside compartment for the electric element
There is also a separate set of t-stats for the electric and a set for LP. Both have 'reset' buttons in outside compartment (Rubber cover--push to 'Reset') Electric set is on left side. If ECO (high temp t-stat) tripped it will need to be reset for electric to work.
Electric element is feed directly from a 120V AC circuit breaker. Check for tripped CB

If Atwood Brand WH....
Electric and LP use same set of t-stats. So if LP works problem is not with t-stats.
Electric uses 12V DC to activate the 120V AC.
12V DC comes from fuse panel to ON/OFF switch then to a relay (located by element on backside of water heater). When relay makes up....120V AC from a circuit breaker then feeds the element.
SO check DC fuse and AC CB

Suburban uses a 1440W element, Atwood uses a 1400W element.
Both brands on electric can heat 70*F supply water to 130*F/140*F within one hour. Once hot recovery time is roughly 30 mins.

BTW, that inside warning/check light is only for gas operation.
Did you check the dedicated circuit breaker inside if the power center?

Thank you for the responses. The water heater is an Atwood. I will check the fuses, the circuit breaker is on. I also looked and did not see any outside switches.

I checked the fuse box and all of the fuses are good. There is one missing fuse the last one in line and I am not sure if it is supposed to be missing or if that is the issue.
