2002 Silverado 2500HD parts availiblity

I have a 1979 Chevy van and find that many of the available parts are junk. I recently did a fair amount work and found wheel cylinders that were wrong, rebuilt calipers that didn’t fit, brake hose too short and poorly made, crankcase filter that self-destructed, AC receiver that didn’t fit, PCV valve that leaked, and two brake boosters that malfunctioned. Most parts were from RockAuto and I used name brands like ACDelco.

I think that you will find that most parts for older vehicles are imported and quality is very bad. Buy new, old stock if possible.

01-02 were also my fave body style and still in the top 5 for me along with 2nd gen Ram sport, 73-79 GM, 68-72 GM and 47-54 5 windows. Oh and Power wagons and big window 56 F 100s.

Planning to keep my 8.1L 2500 Suburban for many more years yet. I don't think it will be a problem.

I'm still able to get parts for my '96 Buick Roadmaster wagon, although a few things are getting harder to find. That is a much less common vehicle than your truck.

I think parts are going to be very hard to find, I think you should dump that truck now! Tell ya what I will do, since it's the holiday season I'll do ya a favor and come buy the truck sight unseen for the NADA value. Just the kinda guy I am. ;)

Really though, I think parts for those trucks will be around for a good long time. The 99-02 body style is one of my favorites, if I could find one like yours I would sell my truck in a second for it. I like the ext cab, short bed 4x4 HD look, we have one at work that is a 2wd, 6.0l, ext cab long bed that has been a great truck with 150k on it now, city driven towing around 6000lbs most every day.

To be fair, the scenario he suggested is more likely (no matter how unlikely) than not finding parts. ;)

Around here there are a lot of your vintage of trucks running around, so you shouldn't have a problem getting parts for a long time.

I'm a CSR at one of the large auto parts store chains. Last month a customer came in with a $800+ laundry list and we had over $600+ on the shelves and the remaining parts the following afternoon.

A friend of mine at work has an 07 2500hd and was just telling me yesterday he can't seem to find parts for his. I assumed he meant used parts. I told him that's probably because most folks with 2500s keep em for a long time and when they get rid of them there's not much good left on them, or contractors have them and they get run hard, same scenario, when they are done with them, not much good left on them.

Good to hear there are still oem parts available.

I hope parts aren't going to be an issue (I don't think they will). I have a 2005 8.1L with 33k miles and plan to keep it a long time. So far I've had the oil pressure sender fail and a MAF or MAP (not sure since the code was either so I replaced both).

It seems age is harder on the sensors than miles/cycles. The truck is in a heated garage a lot of the time when not in use.
