I just sold my diesel pusher motor home and I'm going back to a fifthwheel. Even though I have owned two ford diesels (7.3&6.0), I was leaning towards a gas truck with 4.30 axle to tow my new fifthwheel (Montana with 11,700 dry weight and 2,600 pin weight). The problem is I have to order this truck and there are a ton of diesel powered f350's on the lot. So, 6.7 power stroke owners, how do you like your engines and how reliable have they been. Please post mileage along with any problems to date. Also, I'm looking at a crew cab short bed, how is the 26 gal. Fuel tank for you diesel owners? What kind of range do you get out of a tank, both towing and non towing?
Thank you in advance!

Yes I am due service now and will get the flush done in next couple weeks. I do not do my own but will have nearby shop do.

I also have them drain, flush refill with new tranny fluid each 50,000 miles. I know that is above Ford recommendations but my last Ford tranny ran 280,000 trouble free miles. The cost of that is much less than a transmission rebuild. Towing in this heat, we go to Florida some, getting clean fresh fluid in every 50,000 miles I feel it is pretty cheap insurance. Some of you may think it is a waste of dollars - if so fine that is your opinion.

I guess I haven't been that close before. I don't worry about buying the cheapest fuel, but then I only travel occasionally, not full time, so I could see the point there. It's just not something I ever gave consideration to when buying a vehicle.
If it is fun, the State of Minnesota will try to outlaw it!

For me? Well, when I'm towing, I always have my restroom with me no matter where I stop. I can't say the same for a gas station. I've had a scare where I was down to about 7 miles of range showing on the computer, trying to find an open gas station in a rural area (in Alabama IIRC)

Just turned 90k miles on my 2011, only fuel filters, brakes, tires and oil! It did have a recall for emissions, this was a reflash and I have noticed no difference.

Don't forget these trucks are 6 speed trans and pull very nicely as all 3 brands do.

My 2011 6.7 Lariat King Ranch flipped over 100,000 trouble free miles today - over 25,000 towing 34 FT 5th wheel with total truck & RV load 22,500 lbs.

I love the tow haul mode, its downhill braking is exceptional. You have to get above 7% grade for it not to handle the set cruise downhill speed. Have not yet found an uphill grade the cruise does not maintain.

I get 10.7 MPG towing and around 18 not towing but I live in rolling hills which has a negative impact. Spent 7 weeks in Florida (no hills) and got 22 MPG not towing. The regen is absolutely no issue.

I would recommend this truck to anyone.

Same here - same year, same model (DRW CC), purchased new, but we only have approximately 12K miles with 4500 towing. Fully loaded, full tanks on our 32' FW weighing in at 14k, we get anywhere from 8 to 12mpg towing depending on terrain and same 18k not towing. Whether fully loaded for a week of dry camping or partial tanks for less, it pulls effortlessly and love that Tow/Haul mode too especially with the mountains here in Idaho!

Bought a 2011 right after they came out. Couldn't believe how awesome the truck is. Needed more carrying capacity so went to 2014 6.7 DRW F350. A very sweet truck.

My range is a couple of thousand miles,so stopping is a must but its where we want not at a truck stop ,usually a rest area that is nice and parklike ,walk around a bit then on our way .
Easy on and off , no searching for a empty lane and all of the hassles of fueling every 2 hours, plus you now have the option of fuel in the lowest cost state or even country.

Range is critical to costs and comfort

You mentioned 4:30 gears, I believe you wont be able to get that until your in a f450, that trailer you posted will easily be towed by a 350. Don't forget these trucks are 6 speed trans and pull very nicely as all 3 brands do.

What tires did you replace the stockers with? I need some this week.

BFG Long trails, fairly quiet considering the tread, they seem to be wearing like steel.

Limit the "fuel" that you put into your bladder.

Got a F250 with a 6.7 PS and I've been pulling a 13K fifth wheel with no problems. Moves it like nobody's business and I average 12 MPG. I average just over 17 MPG empty in mostly highway conditions. I only have just over 8k on it but so far no issues.

I've got a F250 Lariat diesel crew cab, and it's been an incredibly trouble free truck in its 125K miles.
If you're considering buying a Lariat 6.2 gas truck, I'd suggest you drop back to a XLT diesel for about the same money.

When you get up over 10K lbs. dry weight or if you're going to be towing long distances, diesel is the only way to go. But not everyone has the $60k+ laying around to pay for a Lariat or Platinum Crew Cab diesel with every option.
