2014 GMC Sierra

I guess the question you are asking is if anyone else has a 2014 GMC 1500 that they use for a tow vehicle? I'm sure the answer is yes but why ask the question? I'm sure that the it would be similiar to the 2013 model in capability if not slightly better / more capable.

If you're wondering about weights and the ability of your new 2014 GMC 1/2 being capable enough to tow 6500lbs (GTW) then I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that you are mostly likley A-OK if you have the V8/tow package etc... that is unless you are also hauling a load of gravel in the back or something else to eat up all of your payload.

The RV has a 5030 shipping weight - this is dry weight - 1 battery and no propane in the tanks.

It has a 2510 lb carrying capacity

Potential weight - 7540 lbs.

The GVWR of the 1500 is 7200 lbs with the 5.3 L engine and 6900 lbs with the 4.3 L engine

That is too much trailer for a 1500 truck - go for a 2500HD Silverado and that will give you margin on the GVWR and may help in the future if you get a heavier RV.

Silverado 2500HD - 9500 lb GVWR with the gas engine and 10,000 lb GVWR with the diesel engine.

Depends on the options and model of the vehicle.

A 7540 lb trailer (assuming absolute worst case) puts 900 lbs on the hitch. Most 2014s I've looked at has between 1800 - 2000 lbs of carrying capacity. That's plenty, unless you have a very heavy family...

Remember GVWR is rated for powertrain, GAWR is what DOT / Safety looks at. All braking hardware is sized to GAWR, and not GVWR.

7500lbs of trailer weight is a lot for a 1/2 ton truck but I don't think it is in any way too much. I HAVE NOT SEEN THE SPECS FOR THE 2014 GMC. With that being said a max trailer weight of 7500lbs would push 975lbs of tongue weight on the ball. That should be acceptable on most of the newer 1/2tons as payload has been steadly rising in that segment with 1300-1600lbs being common on 4wd models now. If the truck is equipped correctly and the TV doesn't have much else other than passengers in the vehicle then tongue weight/payload shouldn't be a problem. It might be close but still within raiting. Also, these new 1/2tons are pushing 9500-10000lbs of towing capacity with GCWR of 14-16k.

From your post I think you are looking at the GMC's GVWR not the GCWR. I think if you take a minute to look at the specs for this particular truck you will see that properly equipped a 7500lb trailer is absolutely feasible.

The only question I see is: asking if anybody else has similiar setup. Are you looking for confirmation on power, handling, etc.?

Also, you will need to provide more data than 2014 GM half ton. Is it Regular, Double-Cab, or Crew? Standard or short bed? V6 or V8, and 3.08 or 3.42 if V8? (Guessing you do not have the 6.2, they just started production.)

I have experience with a V6 Double-Cab. Did everything I asked, and more.

Okay, yes let me clarify. It would be a 5.3 V8 Crew cab. I am just looking to see if anyone out there is currently using this truck. As for the numbers off the Keystone site, I am unsure of where the trailer GVW of 7,500 lbs come from, because the sticker on the actual trailer I saw at the dealer was labeled at 6,500lbs.

Make sure you have the 3.42 rear axle. The 3.08 is available, and limits the tow rating to 6700lbs. Which would be doable if the trailer is max at 6500.

My trailer as it sits now is heavier than your GVWR, and I have a noisy Equalizer, and the 2010 version of the trucks you are asking about. The new trucks are slightly more powerful so you should have to trouble with that trailer and a Sierra (or Silverado if you must go Chevy) so long as the rear end is above 3.08.
