2016 Chevy Silverado Sat radio

I've got a new Chevy and the reception for the Sat radio is bad. The antenna is not under the camper, but I believe depending on which direction I'm heading the signal gets blocked. I had a remote antenna for my Dodge, not sure if they are all the same, but I'm looking for directions on how to access the port in the radio for a remote antenna. thanks. My truck has the double glovebox, and the fixed middle console. So it seats only 2 in the front.
  • I have a 2015 Chevy and my reception has been excellent, only lost reception when in tunnels or close to a high mountain on the south side.
  • I have a 2015.5 Chevy, and my satellite reception is horrible even without the camper on the truck. With it on, I only get satellite reception when driving south. Let us know what you find out.
  • Well, I'm not that interested in getting sat reception to go through all that. My Dodge, I only had to push some tabs in on the glove box and had access right there. If I left the camper on the truck all the time it would be worth it. Right now I only do 2 or 3 trips a year. I also read a report that stated I might need a splitter do to the Chevy OnStar. Thanks for the info though!

Thanks for the replies, but I need to know where to look for the antenna connection under the dash. Earlier models show it behind the glove box. Doesn't seem to be the same with my truck.

The antenna is located on the back side of the radio. Just unplug the existing one and insert the new one.

Now comes the more challenging part. To get to the back of the radio, you need to pry off the front surround from the radio. Get a stiff 1 inch wide steel putty knife and insert it between the dash plastic and the radio surround plastic and PRY. Don't be bashful, those dang spring clips are really hard to pop out. A plastic putty knife will break before the clips let loose.

Once the surround is removed, then remove the metal screws and gently pull the whole radio out. Have something handy to support the radio while you remove the existing antenna and thread the new antenna thru the bottom of the dash. Several blankets, bed pillows, etc come in handy as a support. It may take you upwards of an hour to finally choose the wire path and secure it before you end up plugging into the radio.

    Good luck,

  • I got a magnetic base antenna and put it on the front of the hood. It works perfect all the time. I did the same for my friend who has a 1 ton Dodge. Works perfect there also.

  • You will probably need to move the antenna to the top of the camper. Easy to do, just get a stick-on antenna and run the cable to the hidden module, probably under the passenger kick panel.
