- ScottGNomadHard to know if there were any correction factors involved but OTOH, they weren't utilizing the charge air cooler either. That alone could add another 50 to 70+ lb/ft of torque!
- Turtle_n_PeepsExplorerI would love to know what they did to the tranny to keep it alive. HP is easy, torque is what breaks things. You get the torque in that early and ..........well..........it's going to be hard on parts.
Looks like it will be first up Ike again. I would have never guessed that. I agree, only 45 or 50 HP loss through the drive train...........yep, they would be sandbagging! :B - 4x4ordExplorer IIISomething seems wrong with those numbers but I do think the 2017 Duramax will blow the doors off the 2017 Powerstroke. I find it exciting to see the manufacturers take a proven engine and beef it up to make it even tougher and more powerful. I think it is likely that the 2017 Powerstroke is designed to handle much more torque than what it is currently tuned to deliver. Is the Cummins scheduled for a redesign for 2019?

Considering that they put allison transmissions in a lot more powerful equipment I'm sure it is easy enough to figure out. - Turtle_n_PeepsExplorerLike what more powerful equipment does the allie 1000 go in?

I dont think it does.
Maybe that's the answer; maybe they're going to a 2000 series? - IdaDExplorerThe smartest thing they did was dumping the crappy fuel pump. Performance wise I'd bet the new Dmax will be first to the top. Tho I'm of the opinion they all have plenty of power for most applications. I've got the slowest of the three and am perfectly happy going up and down the mountains we have out west.

FCA is broke, so no redesign on the horizon.

And now that Fiat and cummins are battling an emission problem in court the future is very questionable.- 4x4ordExplorer IIII still remember buying my first new turbo diesel back in the fall of 1992. It was a GMC 6.5 Turbo Diesel. In spite of it being a dud I was thrilled to own that truck for many years. My son-in-law drives it now after he installed a new Peninsular Diesel. Anyway back when those early turbo diesels debuted they were described by the automotive journalists as having gobs of torque....400 lbft!!
