- 1jeepExplorer IImy fathers 07 gmc dmax dually just turned 33k miles, he is now replacing brake lines and contemplating a new truck. He is 3 years into retirement, my suggestion was to keep his current truck and dump some maintenance items into and he should still be ahead.

I agree many people buy what they don't need and have high levels of debt that they struggle with. There are also many people who could easily afford $100,000 for a vehicle. I guess the problem is that too many people can't seem to discipline themselves to buy only what they can afford. It is probably common for wealthy people to be driving old $20,000 trucks and people who struggle with finances to drive the fancy new ones.
Your story sounds like us. We buy less than we can afford just because the middle models suit us. Stress makes for a bad purchase. something I tell young folks. My dad and father in-law were the same so I have a good excuse. Look at my signature and you will see how old of vehicle's we have.

My parents still have their 05 Chevy Duramax. It has ~55k miles so I suspect they'll still keep it although my dad has kicked the tires on a new Super Duty.
Not something I would do because I know what happens next.
chevman - Reports are coming in that Kentucky Truck Plant is now shipping '17 Super Duty's. :B

We have been retired 10 years for me and 13 for DW. Trailer was 2 years old when I retired and truck 5 years old. We just in the last year updated both the truck and trailer. DW's SUV is a 2004 with 60K- on the clock.
Chris - 4x4ordExplorer IIIBoth trailer and truck are getting some years on them but they would have been pretty much top of the line when they were new. Good for you for not getting sucked in to needing new.
